  • £10 note seems to be the way to go then ! I sent HSBC a cheque and the cashed that PDQ. Is this a loophole do we think ?

No, I think its just that now they are returning the £10 and you were unlucky!
  • I've just had a reploy from HSBC regarding my first letter to them claiming charges, I included all the statements with the charges highlighted, a printout of the interest claculator of Martins and the form letter. The reply I got this morning says that I have to have a list of all the charges, date and description as it is not 'obliged' to 'assist in the analysis of my account'!!!! I've not asked for assistance, just dosh!!!

Has anyone else had this letter, I'm guessing it's just time wasting but will reply with the list in exactly the format they require, even though they've already had it, bar the description!!

    Oh, I'm miffed....
    So far:-

HSBC £2515 incl int claimes, settled on £1998:j

Abbey - £2995 claimed, offered £1098, accepted as part payment and proceed to next stage, response not satisfactory so currently with Ombudsman:confused:

    Cap 1 - settled on charge difference:j

Barclaycard - settled on charge difference:j

MBNA - 1 account settled in full, £993:beer:
    - 2nd account settled on difference:T

HSBC Visa - no charges amazingly!!:rotfl:

Household Bank Visa - settled on charge difference:T

ACE catalogue - settled in full after 1 letter!!!
  • From Martin's article...

t’s time to contact the bank and ask for your money back. Simply write and say you believe all the past charges (and detail them) were disproportionate and you want all the money back with interest.

The banks will check these figures and if you wrongly claim say overdraft interest this is why they want the details of what charges you are claiming.

They didn't do that to me; they just offered me the money.

(BTW, got £25 back yesterday... still waiting for the other £748... they have until Monday morning...).
With all of my dietary restrictions, I'm left with lipstick and water

If they don't reply with a full response within your time frame, send out the next letter.

  • No, you can't claim overdraft interest.

Send this first letter to your branch and they will forward to the relevant department.
  • Well i got my statements today .. totted up all the figures and they owe me nearly £800!!

Also i enclosed a tenner as i didnt want to send a cheque and i read on here a few people had sent cash and they have written on the letter that there will be no charge BUT they havnt sent me my tenner back, do you think i should ring them on Monday and ask where it is?
