  • Hi all, new to this myself but reckon there's at least £1,500 in charges waiting for me with HSBC. I'm hoping to be moving to Australia for a year in the summer and this money's forming a big part of my possible budget!

How long does it usually take from getting the copy statements (I don't have internet banking) to a satisfactory resolution? Appreciate this will probably vary from person to person but an average is fine.

    Thanks

Up to 40 days to get the statements, then anywhere from a few weeks up to four/five months. It's hard to say how long each claim will take because the banks treat each one differently.

  • Rec'd a letter from HSBC last week stating that they are going to repay all of my fees (£404) 'without prejudice'.
This was after my second letter to them. Yippee!!

    Hi All,

I'm still pretty new here but thought I'd join in the discussion on HSBC and ask some questions from the wise.

Top and bottom - sent a letter to HSBC requesting bank statements on 12th Jan received nearly all of the today in about 100 envelopes! Must have given my poor postman a heart attack....

My personal account (still open and been in credit for about 12-15 months) - sent a letter off today asking for £1477.93 back in charges in last 6 years.

Then I started on the old joint closed account. OH MY GOD! I'm missing 35 pages from the yellow pages then sent out but I've already calculated a massive £4630.48.

Is there any hope of me getting that sort of money back? Just wondering if anyone else has claimed as much? I'm a bit worried !

Thanks in advance for your advice.

You stand an excellent chance of getting all these charges back. I've seen many claims for between £5000 and £10,000, and a few claims for over £10,000 (up to over £17,000).

Follow the steps carefully in Martins article, and you shouldn't have too many problems. The banks may try to play you around a bit (delay, intimidation etc), but they are paying out in around 99.9% of claims. You have the law on your side.

Thanks very much. Really appreciate the quick response.

Getting typers cramp trying to excel spreadsheet type up nearly 200 lines of charges!

I'll keep you posted on progress.
  • I'm glad you're all asking the same question as I already have the link copied :)

oops sorry if it was asked before I should have taken a look but I was really busy and needed a quick answer :D
  • Thanks for having a look at this, much appreciated. This is how HSBC asked for the information to be presented:

    Date Amount Description
dd/mm/yy £xx.xx As appears on statement

    Total
    £xx.xx

I can't really see what they are driving at?!
If anyone else has had this letter, let me know what you did next. I'm almost on my way to the County Court...
    Cheers!
  • Pleased you got an offer! I also used Martin's calculator but I can't see what I'm doing that's any different to anyone else!
  • Is it because the Interest Calculator changes the date to American style mm/dd/yyyy ?
