AHA! Thank you very much..
Now, I've just checked, and can only go back around 18 months, now its clicked: they automatically upgraded me from a 'junior' sort of account to a full bank account.
Will they provide me with any details prior to this?
Thanks for the help!0 -

A third letter was meant to have gone in the post today!, They wouldn't fax it to me, so I shall wait and see I suppose.
HURRAH!! The offer letter arrived today dated the 22nd January :T :T :T :T , so I will post it back tomorrow recorded delivery, and accept!0 -
I've got my letter ready by the side of me to post to HSBC to reclaim 6 years worth of charges, however, I also have an 8k loan with them that I can NO WAY afford to pay back, I have got an account with another bank so can move if they close my current accounts, but will they also insist I repay my loan?0

Your loan is a different agreement and will be okay but they can and sometimes do close accounts or call in an overdraft after a reclaim of charges.0

Your loan is a different agreement and provided you keep up the payments etc you will be okay.0

Hi all,
I've read up quite abit on this, worked out all my charges - £388, £426.57 with interest. I've filled out the second letter for requesting money from the main guide, but where do I send it? My branch address or the main 8 Canada Square, London address.
Also how likely are HSBC to close my account, I've read the sticky about it with only two cases of this happening - does this mean it depends on each claim and your history or is it just people haven't replied? Just want to know how likely I will need to make different arrangements!
Thanks

It's pot luck whether they ask you to close your account. It would be better for you to make arrangements anyway. This way you will be prepared if they do close the account. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I am a student and I am currently banking with HSBC. I have been having numerous problems with them recently.
In the summer of 2005 I decided to take a year out of university and informed HSBC of this. They made a note of it on the system, but a year later I was sent a letter stating that my student account would be changed to a graduate account since I had graduated - something I was unable to do since I wasn't in university and hadn't been for the past year which I had already informed them of. I was told I would need to bring confirmation of my student status in order for my account to be changed back. I did this and was assured my account had been updated. This was not the case and I was subsequently charged £50 a month. I returned to my branch in December 2006 with my student confirmation so that the account could be changed yet again. The charges were refunded and the account finally updated. However, over Christmas I unfortunately went £200 over my overdraft limit due to a number of direct debits coming out at the same time. I received a letter last week from HSBC stating they would be charging me £125 for this. I have visited my branch and they have confirmed the charges. I know I shouldn't have gone over the limit, but £125 seems rather steep especially on a student account.
Also I might add that I have visited my branch twice this week and have not even been offered a private room to discuss my financial situation and have instead had to discuss it in front of the general public in the reception area where my personal and account details can be seen by anybody in the area.
I am in the process of switching my accounts to the Halifax as HSBC seems to be a complete farce.
Do I have any rights concerning my problems with HSBC?0
