Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
I originally asked for my archived statements in September of last year, got told they'd take 4 - 6 weeks to arrive. Phoned up in the 7th week to be told it actually takes 8 - 10 weeks, phoned up on the 12th week only to be told this time that it can take up to 14 weeks. So I phoned again on the 16th week and they said "oh, you haven't had them yet... Well I don't know what's happened, I'll put the order through again". So now I start all over again with the "they take 4 - 6 weeks to arrive" spiel.
    I'm so aggravated by them.

    I've sent this letter
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/hi/pdfs/12_12_06_bank_estimated.pdf
I figure that if they're gonna mess about and avoid sending me the statements so I can work out the charges they can blummin well do it themselves. I worked out an average for the months of statements I have and multiplied it to get 6 years worth (a disgraceful £6400), and basically said that if they disagree with the amount I'm asking for they should send me the correct figures within 14 days or I'm going to court.

    Wish me luck everyone!!

update on my friends progress they have finally sent his statements, the print is so small you need a magnifying glass to read them.
and in reply to his letter stating that they haven't offered enough, they said they would look at it again, they wrote back last week saying there is no more on offer, and he agreed to the terms and conditions when he signed for the account. So now he has threatened to take them to court.
will update if any thing further happens
  • hi i'm new on this forum, i've been checking out the advice for a while though.
i am currently trying to claim back bank charges amounting to £1759 from hsbc. i have sent out my first 2 letters and i have only had one reply saying that they will get back to me by the 8th feb, i'm not interested in waiting til this date/ unless anyone thinks it may be in my best interest??

i didnt really want to resort to this but i suppose its the only way i'll get anything back. can anyone please give me some advice about the whole small claims proeedings or any good outcomes from claiming etc??
    thanks shell

From what I've read HSBC seem to be one of the easier banks to claim from, mostly offering 85% of your claim as a settlement.

If you would be happy with this it might be worth waiting until the 8th to see if they make an offer. If you want the full amount I'd go onto the next stage.
  • I have just managed to get £1290 out of HSBC. Original claim was for £1434.

It took just two letters, with a £1 recorded mail on each, that cost me £2.

I sent the first one on Dec 29, nothing scary just writing to them and ‘spreadsheeting’ the charges over the last 6 years, using the BBC’s template letter (here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6170209.stm - nothing against the money saving one - the BBC's was a little more creative though).

Got a “we’re looking into it” letter back last week from the infamous Colin Langdale, sent another direct to him to gee them along a bit and threatening to go to small claims court, and hey presto, offer letter arrived yesterday, which actually seems to have been sent BEFORE they received mine.

I have to say the very wordy acceptance letter they send is hilarious, saying 'we don't accept responsibility' but by giving the money they basically do. Priceless.

Sent back acceptance form (I'm happy with the amount), so with that I can now pay off my HSBC managed loan and be debt free from HSBC.

    SO HAPPY!

Hi guys I'm new here, just been browsing for a few days. My names Amy, i'm 20 and from Merseyside.

I have just started with the process of reclaiming bank charges for the first time. I sent my request to HSBC for a copy of all charges or statements for the last 6 years, but have noticed a few people mention they are able to view this online?

I bank online with HSBC but can only view statements for the last two months... is this correct?

I'm guessing i'll just have to wait for them to send me my details in the post.
  • Go into your account page (where you can see the two month statement) and there should be a grey menu top left wich says My Statements - this contains the full six year list and is where I collated all my charges! Good luck!
