  • Hi all,

I sent a letter to HSBC on 10th Jan asking for the £165 back in unfair bank charges.

They have sent me a letter today saying thanks for the letter, they are looking into the matter and will contact me with a full response as soon as they have completed their investigations.

Is this the usual response  I was hoping that this letter would contain a cheque.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Zippy x

I sent my first letter on 14th dec and recieved exactly the same response on the 22nd dec.
On tuesday 16th i recieved my offer of £2084. so think its just a standard reply .
  • Hi there,

I am in the really early stages of reclaiming bank charges and wanted your help/advice on a letter received from HSBC.

I sent the template letter to HSBCs Data Protection Controller requesting a list of my bank charges on 14 December 2006 (cheque for £10 enclosed).

I received a letter from them on 16 January basically saying that they will forward copies of statements for the period in question in seperate batches and that these should be with me shortly. They are doing this FOC and have returned my cheque.

I am concerned that this is a delaying tactic and that the statements will not arrive. Does the 40 days response time refer to just a response/acknowledgment from the bank or is it a deadline of when I should receive the information requested?

    Many thanks, Sunflower2
  • Just need confirmation as to where everybody, who has been made an offer and accepted, is sending the acceptance form? what address and to whom?

  • I am just about to send 1st letter - Will HSBC just close my account or will they withdraw our loan, credit card etc?

It is 40 days from when they receive your first request for your statements.

Send the letter back to the name/address that is on the letter that made the offer.

Mostly, if a bank is asking for an account to be closed, it only affects the account that the charges have been claimed from. Whether this situation will change or not is another matter.

  • Well, my offer letter that was meant to have been sent last Friday, which was in the batch to be sent 1st class on Monday, still has not arrived. I phoned them (Leeds Quality Team) who said it had been posted but they couldn't tell me when, and they had better put a copy in the post in case it had gone missing...so I shall wait and see!
If anyone else has had an offer letter, what do they actually say? They have told me verbally what they are offering, and I am going to accept, but just want to double check what the letter actually says before telling them that.

They say between 7-10 working days but mine was in 3 days after they received it, (Sept 2006) but with the influx of the many who are claiming, it may take a while longer

They basically put the amount they are giving in writing and that by accepting it they will close the file on this matter
