reclaimed bank charges from HSBC (current account). my claim total was for £2971.70 including interest (using the great spreadheet linked on this site), first substantive response from HSBC is for £2156.88 to try & get me to settle.

They state that they do not agree with paying me back the interest on the charges, which I can understand.

my first thought was to accept their offer, but should i be rejecting it and holding out for more? what are my chances of getting any more?
  • Just to let you all know that I only needed to send two letters and they have made me an offer! (They didn't reply to my first letter!)

So, keep going!! Just wanted to ask a question:- If I agree to the offer does this mean I can't make a claim for any other charges added after the date of the letter? Would I still be able to claim charges if they are added in say 6 months??

Obviously, it all depends on your circumstances and the amount involved (both in real and percentage terms) but, personally, I regard any part offer or payment as an attempt to take some of the charges from you for a second time.<O:p</O:p

My 8 weeks is up Thursday, but I've had nothing back yet. I was pretty much told, it would be on 8 weeks when I heard something. Its a bit weird that some people are getting everything back, most around 85-90%, some 50% and some none. I wonder if there is any rationale behind it? Maybe just who happens to be dealing with your claim.

  • I have just received my statements from HSBC. I have alot of "total charges" can I claim for all these? They range from £25-125. Plus I also have an amount for an upaid cheque and notified fees and charges are these all claimable as well. I have got confused with what is claimable and not. This is all on personal accounts also. Leah
  • Hello all out there.

I am seeking to claim 3,600 from HSBC and today received an offer of 2,300 having threatened the dreaded Financial Ob. - a little short I think of my initial calculations. I phoned HSBC and asked why it was short and they told me that they NEVER refund interest added on (I used MSE's to calculate) also that they never refund more than 85% of any claim....I'm sensing a little cattle muck here but wanted to check in with the wider group - any advice?

They would'nt refund the interest because the 8% is what the courts would award you should you take it to court and won although it can be used as a good bargaining tool.

If you are not happy with the settlement figure they have offered you, hold out for more and move onto the next stage althoughI believe 85% is the amount they are generally trying to settle with all their customers.

    Good luck with the rest!!!
