  • Hi there!
I am in the process of claiming back my charges from HSBC,totalling approx £1900 inc interest. I sent my first letter on the 25th november'06 and stating that I look forward to a response in 14 days, but I did not hear anything. I decided to leave off sending my second letter until after christmas in order to let the post get back to normal, but the day i was going to post it I received a reply. The thanked me for my patience and said that they were still investigating my claim, and added that they will be in contact before 23rd January. Do I wait for them or just go ahead and send the second letter?! I am a bit apprehensive about this whole process so some advice would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks
    Jemma

Jemma, just stick to your timetable, do not allow them to delay you.

Hi, we recently incurred two charges for non payment of direct debits (with HSBC) of £30 each, now is there anyway I can get them to reduce it to the minimum amount recommended by (was it the financial ombudsman?) something like £12? I don't want to try and claim it back since they'll probably shut the account and its the one we use for house bills so I won't be Mr popular. Or is asking them to reduce likely to just annoy them in the same way?

There is no such £12 recommended amount by anyone for bank accounts. You can claim the whole amount back.

If they will not refund after a polite informal request, you will need to follow the claim process. If you do this, HSBC do not tend to close accounts, but you should take the necessary precautions anyway.

    Evening
I sent my first letter to my branch via special delivery. on the 2ndof Jan .
I have conacted royal mail who inform me that they attempted a delivery at 11:00 on the 3rd of jan but no one was available to sign for it. (they open at 9:30)! and as of today they still have not collected it from the post office!
    Q?

Do i give them 14 days from sending the letter or 14days from when they received the letter?

Am i better going into the branch and getting them to sign a copy to say that they have received the letter?

    Many thanks JIM

    Hi,
I have an old current account with HSBC that I no longer use as I moved banks after having enough of them. I kept the account open to use whilst I had a loan with them.
I decided to claim back my charges, which added to £650. I sent my first letter on the 8th December, and delivered by hand to my branch. I never received a reply and so sent the second letter on the 23rd December (well delivered by hand to the branch in the town where I work), before going away for the holiday period. On my return, I have a letter from the 'Service Quality Team' thanking me for my initial letter, and saying they are looking into it and will contact me with a full response when investigations are complete. This letter was dated the 22nd December. The letter has a reference number plus an additional reference of SVFAIL1/SFIFLT.
I am yet to hear anything further from them, what do you think should be my next step, should I resend the second letter to this quality department or should I start the whole court stuff?
    Any advice appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Leanne

You have given them plenty of time to deal with your claim, and they haven't responded in a satisfactory way. Start your court claim.

  • This seems to be the way HSBC are now dealing with these requests.

They either reply on your 1st or 2nd letter saying they have received your request and that they are investigating your claim. They do not give any indication of the time it will take.

Are they just trying to buy time whilst they figure out a strategy?

Has anybody received the above 'we are investigating letter' and then actually recieved a settlement?

I would stick to your timeline folks and commence court action when the deadline has passed.
  • I received my letter informing me that they were looking into my claim, it was dated 29/12/2006 they did' nt give me a date when they would give me an answer just that it would be as soon as possible!!
I have claimed via MCOL on 21/12/2006 which was acknowledged by DG solicisters on 29/12/2006

I assume you responded to thsi 'we are not looking into this' letter with your LBA?

I recieved last week the delaying letter with a customer service leaflet but sent my LBA the same day regardless.
  • This letter arrived after I had filed my court claim
