I was under the impression you did not get charged for authorised overdrafts as long as you did not go over your limit which is when they charge you (it only the interest they charge you)
So you should claim all the total charges as i understand these refer to all the times you went over your limit:j 221 hours & 32 mins clocked up on wii fit since 8th August0 -
well i downloaded my statements yesterday went through them all and worked out i have been charged close to £1400, i drew up the 2nd letter to send off (i have the statements allready) and posted it yesterday to my account holding branch (not recorded -damnit) so i will start my timetable today. will keep you all updated, and no matter what i will be keeping to my own timetable. I have read through this whole thread and i noticed many people asking the same sort of questions about what to do when the bank send a "delaying" letter, my thoughts regarding this, is next time the bank tries to charge you for going overdrawn or something send them a letter saying you are investigating the case and will get back to them in 28 days or how ever long, they wont accept that and the money will be taken out your account wether you agree or not. it is on these principals i am going to stick to the timetable as nearly 2 months is more than enough time to "investigate the issue" especially as i have done the work allready by listing the dates, the description of the charge and the amount allready.
for all those who have succeeded in their claims well done, to those are in the middle or just starting good luck, and heres hoping it all goes smoothly. next will be my credit cards.0 -
Hi,
When I was a student 2000-2003 I racked up a lot of bank charges and now I'm thinking of reclaiming them.
I closed the account when I graduated - is it still possible to reclaim them - I still have a record of my account number and sort code.
Shall I send off the first letter and get the ball rolling?
Thanks,
Ben0 -
Hi All,
Back in December i decided to bite the bullet and sent of my first letter requesting details of any charges on my main account.
Having requested the details on a specific account number i finally received a reply this week. They have returned my cheque as a gesture of goodwill and sent me statements from my credit card instead of my main account (completely different account number). Do you think this is deliberate? What would be my best course of action now?
Many thanks in advance

If the account number was clearly stated and the request was specified under the Data Protection Act then they have not fulfilled their obligation. Let them know the clock is still ticking and if you don't receive the correct statements within the 40 days, you will report them and enforce through the court if necessary.0 -
I am new to the site (Well previously only viewed)
I collated all my bank charges from HSBC online statements and sent the Template letter requesting a refund of £1300 on 12th December 2006.
I included a list of dates, amounts and the description of charge for each one, I only used the description “CHARGE” for all items rather than exact description.
Colin Langdale wrote back saying they needed full list, description of charge, amounts and dates so for the avoidance of doubt, I set the ball rolling again and this time gave a full description i.e. Card Misuse, SO / DD Recall etc.
I am glad I went through in more detail as I noted a few that had been refunded or were cheque stopping fees. So I revised the amount claimed to £1243.50.
This letter was sent 2nd January and I have today received a letter stating they are investigating and will respond when their investigations are complete. No mention of a date when this might be.
I intend to stick to my timescales and issue a LBA next week. Primarily as some of the charges will start to go beyond the 6 year period if I delay issuing a claim into February and in addition it’s my claim so as long as my time scales are reasonable I will set them and not allow HSBC to dictate.
To the informed forum members out there, am I doing everything RIGHT so far?????
Thank you in advance.0 -
as far as I can gather from reading all the previous entries I would advise you are doing everything ok.
I am in the process of claiming, I had a letter from Mr Langdale also saying they are investigating this and will respond by 6th Feb.
I then issued my second letter informing them I will be claiming through the county court if I do not hear anything within 7 days.
The interesting thing is I didn't detail the reason for every claim and they haven't asked me to so far... I wonder if they will? All I sent was a list of the dates and amounts.
good luck!!0 -
I sent my first letter 29/11 due to Christmas sent my 2nd letter in the New Year and today received a letter back.
I claimed for £171 and they have offered me £154.00;
Wonderful outcome and huge thanks to edinburghlass and others for all their advice and help.
In all honesty I was surprised at how quick and easy it was to reclaim these charges - good luck to everyone else going through the process.
