ooh. also - sorry - i have a brain like a sieve - does anyone have any tips for haggling over the phone? What tack should I take? Etc really - sorry, Im really not good when it comes to haggling - and even more so as I have really misplaced and unnecessary fears of bank people! (I know that they arnt any "better" than me - yet i still have "the fear". Foolish me.
... so any tips would ve most helpful.. :) thankyou to everyone who reads this post

I would try being very polite but firm and if that fails then be down right snotty! Only joking. You're not going to get anywhere by being aggressive, and by the sounds of your 'fear' there's not much chance of that anyway.

Just remember the customer is always right and you being the customer!!

Perhaps just put it to them that you are getting married and any financial help towards the 'wedding fund' would be much appreciated:rotfl:

I think you have to judge by the persons attitude you are talking to by how the best way to communicate with them, but just keep it polite. State that if you carried on with your claim you would be entitled to interest in court and have a figure in your head before you phone which you would be happy to settle for.

Best of luck. Let us know how you get on.

I was all set to go to my bank manager and ask him to sort it!

Hi guys just had a bundle of statements delivered from the HSBC via DHL. I know this has probably been asked a 1001 times, but what can and can't I claim for. Can I claim for debit interest when I was overdrawn.

Would be interesting to see some of the numbers added to the posts as I am sure that the reaction from the banks is different depending on the amount that's being claimed.

In my instance, across an almost six-year period (statements from HSBC on-line) I am claiming a little over £4900, to which I discarded a couple of the first statements to ensure that I stayed below the £5000.

The process so far has been a written letter (24th April) to HSBC saying that they have 14 days to refund the total charges and unless they do so, without further warning a court claim will be submitted. Sent it, with statements by recorded and checked on-line that it was delivered the following day.

During the 14 days (from the 25th April), I got the standard "We're looking into it" letter and nothing more, so I went ahead and filed the claim in our local court on 10th May. The clerk did say that they were busy and it takes around a week to process the notice.

The notice was issued on 12th May; it was posted on 11th May and deemed as served on 13th May with the defendant having until the 27th May to reply.

Received a letter today stating that HSBC have filed the acknowledgement of service giving them a further 28 days to sort things out. Their solicitors, as previous posts are DG.

Incidentally, since the start of my claim and after the date to which I am claiming up to ... HSBC have applied further penalty charges to my account, so would seem that no sooner will I finish this case and I shall start it over again.

A matter of patiently waiting now.

    Regards,

    S from Northampton
We missed out on the reclaim of nearly £5000 bank charges from HSBC, but picked up over £10000 in PPI claims against them instead. I am now debt free and working to help my other half clear hers

If you don't mind me asking, how much were you claiming for, in the first place?

I was claiming £1600 but had already paid court fees as well , as HSBC took so long to respond...and i may have taken it if they had not wacked me with £150 charge on the day they sent the offer letter, curiously after paying the £1200 in to my bank they say they are defending the WHOLE claim !!! Dont think so!!!

Got a call back from DG today and asked if we could reach a settlement before court. Was advised by a friendly and polite man to fill in the AQ as I would get that £100 back anyway. He is inundated with claims and its just a case of getting to my file. But it would help if I gave him a copy of my charges and HSBC don't give them to DG. Faxed them a minute ago, so wait and see.....

This explains why we have to keep sending them over - seems incredulous that they don't send the spreadsheets to their own lawyers.
