Time to start my new years resolutions and get to grips with the banking giants, i am going to be claiming refund of charges on two current accounts, one of which is a joint account, am i within my rights to claim for both accounts in the same letter, and is it advisable to claim the 8% intrest in my initial letter, thanks0

Hi.
I'm claiming £2,293.00 in charges (the shame, I am rubbish with money) and £500.92 in interest. Grand total of £2793.92...
The interest figure will be a lot higher now, as after two months, two letters, and several phone calls - NOTHING!
Wrote the first on Nov1st, they received that on the 6th. Waited till the 1st Dec, and wrote a second letter, heard nothing, made several phone calls, everytime being told they are behind with complaints and I should get something 'Next week'.
Then on the 23rd December I got two letters (obviously computer generated responses to both my letters) saying I'd get a response by the 27th.
Now that was never going to happen was it, not with Christmas and all.
Rang on the 30th, again brushed off, told the Christmas post.
Called yesterday twice requesting a call back, its now over 24 hours and they still haven't rung me!!!!
Had to call myself this morning and was told they sent me a letter on the 21st, they can't tell me what it says, but when I get it, to ignore it anyway as its incorrect ?!?!?
They now say I'll get a response in the next two days.
This from a company that made over £2000 off me, excluding all the interest I'll have paid them...
As soon as they pay up (fingers crossed) i'm off after the Credit Card charges, which are less than £200, but they have made me so angry I wanna hammer them...
Funny thing is they keep on sending me letters and emails asking if I want in increase my Credit Card limit, and my overdraft.

Bank: HSBC
Amount Claimed £1095
Amount Refunded :£1250
I argued the point for her with the bank (after her giving the written authority for me to speak on her behalf) that they were still adding charges to the account as a result of them not refunding the charges initially. It was agreed that they would pay not only the amount claimed to the date of the first letter, but also all charges up to date also.
My tip is do not be intimidated, and don't be afraid to mention taking them to court. It certainly spurred HSBC into action for her.
Also negotiated out of the letter the clause about not making future claims.
Andrew , how long did the whole process take? I just sent my reequest for statements letter to HSBC yesterday? Many Thanks, T0 -
Amount claimed - £355 not inc interest
Amount offered - £355.
Happy days. Thanks Money saving expert!

Well I sent my first letter 29/11 - claiming my bank charges heard nothing. I did have a "welsh-dragon" moment in that I claimed for interest charges too which I now know is incorrect. Anyway, I drafted 2nd letter asking for the correct amount (minus the account interest charges) and sent it 1st class recorded yesterday.
Today, I receive a letter from HSBC
Dated 3rd January
Thank you for your letter dated 29th November concerning your request for a refund of bank charges. I apologise for not yet having fully completed my investigation. I will contact you again by 2nd February 2007 and expect to be able to provide you with a full response at that time.
In the meantime, I would like to thank you for your patience and enclose a copy of our leaflet which explains how these matters are dealt with.

Do I still stick to my timetable ? they will have received my letter today so in 7 days I can start court proceedings ?
thanks

Default new claim , please help .
hello , i have followed the step by step tips given . I am with HSBC bank , and am going to send the template letter to them , asking for my 6 years worth of charges i am owed. . . . however i have a question which i would hope can be easily answed . i have a credit card account , and a current account with hsbc. can i request a list of charges , and claim on both accounts ? .... do i send seperate letters , one asking for 6 years of credit card charges and the same for my current account ? or can i do the same for both credit card and current on one letter. . . . i have been reading through this site for a few weeks , and finally decided to proceed as i think i should be owed a good few ££££££ . .... so my question... can i claim on my credit card account with hsbc . or does it only work for my current basic account ???? and if i can claim on both accounts , should i ask for a list of ALL charges for BOTH accounts on one letter ???
please help !
thanks in advance ,

For the first letter where you are asking for the last six years data the bank has. You can list all/any accounts you have with that bank, and they must send what you are requesting. This will cost a maximum of £10 for all your accounts. Don't forget to include the account numbers on the letter! How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

One letter, and one £10 postal order is fine for both accounts.
