  • I would decline the offer and go for the full amount, but thats just my £0.02p worth (with inflation).

    I know....600 wuid is a fair whack!

But on the other side fo the coin....£600 over 6 years is less than £10 a month for a service that I completely abused through laziness. I know HSBC makes billions a year and won't miss my contribution...but I don't object to charges as long as they are reasonable! Like everyone else...to date none of them have been!

Best charge on my account was £75 taken on xmas day 2 years ago!!!!!

Also the offer is only for full and final settlement of my claim with no acc closure or terms attached. This might not be the case if I push for the entire amount! Happy days for a second chance at credit worthiness though!
  • Hi Barster
At what stage did you get your offer?
I am on the MCOL stage. (I have followed the time scale exactly) Up to now I hav'nt had any replies but they have now acknowledged my claim they now have 28 days from the 26/12/2006 to put in a defense

I have put my claim thru MCOL and HSBC had until today to file defence and they've done that. Phoned MCOL helpdesk and they say its been transferred to my local court, what now?? I'm scared i'll have to go to court, what will I say I just know I'll mess it up. Anyone gone to court with HSBC?
Remember ....its not a bargain unless you need it :D

Many people have got to this stage, and have still had their claim settled before any court hearing.

You will now hear from the court. They will tell you what court your case has been transfered to (your local county court). They will also send you an allocation questionnaire. You need to fill this in and return it to the court. There may also be a charge with this depending on the size of your claim. It's important on this form to ask the judge to order standard disclosure. We can advise you how to complete the form once it arrives.

Although the banks settlement offer doesn't mention anything about closing your account. This is no guarantee they wont ask you afterwards. Generally when banks are asking people to close their account after a claim. They are not asking when the offer is made. They are settling the claim, then a few weeks later, they send out a letter giving 30 days notice for the account to be closed.

Accepting a lower offer for the claim will make no difference to the bank, they may still ask you to close your account after you have settled.

  • I have just posted my claim for £4,850. :D
  • Hi all

HSBC sent my satements very promptly. I highlighted all charges and sent them the second letter with a total and a copy of the charges.

They have now replied with "In order that we can consider your request please provide a full itemised breakdown of these charges to include date, description of charge and the amount applied."

As far as I'm concerned I have already done this. Has anyone else had this response? Should I just send them the third letter giving them 7 days notice of taking to court?

    Thanks

    Julie

It sounds as if you have highlighted the statements and sent them back with a total.

You need to list out each charge, what it is for and the date charged.

It was within the 28 days which you are now in, albeit 70% odd of my claim. The problem is that I am sure HSBC have too many claims from this site to cope with! Well actually its not a problem but more of a nice bit of people power that has been encouraged by this site!!!

    Happy Days!!!!!!!

    Thanks for the advice.

It's going to be a long job
