  • Hi

Sorry if this has been mentioned before but I was wondering if it is possible to reclaim charges from HSBC for negotiating foreign (US) cheques?

    Thanks

  • Hi there.......

I sent my 1st letter on Tuesday to HSBC Head Office in London trying to claim back £2,200 of bank charges........does anyone know if this is the correct place to send it??? Or as in a previous thread, should I have sent it to Leeds......Or will it not matter either way?!!!!

Also I have a loan with HSBC, it's approx £8,000.......do you know if they will close my account & ask me to pay my loan in full???? Or will they let me keep my loan running as it is now ( I've never missed a payment in the year i've had it so far)

Any help will be much appreciated.....

    Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

AFAIK, the Leeds office is mainly a call centre

it'll be 8 weeks since i sent letter 1 on 16th May... should I wait until then before sending letter 2 (it's in an envelope ready to go) or just send it now?

    thanks all

I would ring them on the 16th , they are pretty helpful and should tell you when offer going out, if they cant tell you when an offer is going out and 8 weeks is up, then ask for a manager to call you, I was twice phoned back so it does happen.

The threatning court letter made no odds to them and I still waited 8 weeks 5 days and after haggling initial offer ended up with £2300 from £2636 less 117 they already refunded.
    HSBC Claimed £2519 , Paid £2300 - cheque recieved
    Capital One Claimed £300 , £144 offered , court threat 09/05

Halifax Credit Card - Statements requested
Halifax Current Account - Statements requested
Black Horse Loan - Statements requested
Halifax Mortgage - Need to do next
  • So you think I was right in sending it to Head Office then??

I had already printed off all statements with charges on it from my internet Bnaking & enclosed these with the 1st letter.

Head office tends to be the usual route, though sending it to your local branch works too.

Technically and legally they can't but that is no guarantee. The likelihood is that they won't.
Hamsters have no tact and diplomacy, nor do they want any.

The 8 weeks are a cop out. They won't magically send you the money once 8 weeks are over. You have to push them, and if you don't stick to YOUR timescale and to what you have said in your letter (namely, taking them to court), they won't take you seriously.

    I think this reply's for me....If so - many thanks! :D
  • New to this - so forgive me for being slightly confused!

I have completed the money claim form and HSBC entered a defense almost straight away (I am confident I have not overclaimed - but seed of doubt is rapidly growing!) Is this normal? Or does it just depend ie some they will just pay, some they will go through the process and then pay before a hearing date? I am happy with the process etc otherwise wouldn't have gone this far, but is that their game, to try and put you off

Many banks file a defence and then pay up before the court date.

I wrote to HSBC about 2 months ago with all my charges highlighted and a letter asking for the £400 I was owed...received a letter 4 weeks later stating it had been passed on and the bank were looking into my complaint. Sent the 2nd template letter over 2 weeks ago (with the threat of legal action) and have heard nothing. On the 2nd letter I did say 'if i dont't hear from you in two weeks I will commence legal proceedings etc...'
Should I phone them or just go straight to the small claims court or just wait??
How have HSBC been with others?
