I can see a few people reclaiming charges from HSBC and actually getting success. I sent my first letter to reclaim £4,000 and got a response a good two weeks later saying that they are looking into it. I persevered and sent my second letter, and have heard nothing!!

This was about 4 wks ago now. Tried to phone them yesterday and they said that they could not discuss the accounts with me, as it is a joint account and they do not have my Date of Birth on file???????????

Have you EVER heard anything so ridiculous?? How come they have given me a card and allow me to withdraw money, yet they don't have all my personal details?? Madness.

Anyways, I know the next step is registering a claim with MCOL, I'm just waiting for my wages as I sadly haven't got £30 to my name at the mo!!! Why are HSBC ignoring me???

    Kellsbells,

Your MCOL charge should be £120, not £30. I had to wait to be able to afford it too. However, 10 days later, HSBC made me an offer although they said they intend to defend the claim! Don' know whether to accept offer now...(About £1000 less than amount asked for)

  • Hi ya,

I started my claim with the dreaded HSBC in January. Went through the whole proceedure, back and forth with letters, MCOL etc.,

Anyway, I completed the Allocation Questionaire and returned it to the court on 23rd March with the fee.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get a court date? or is it worth phoning the court on Monday to see how things are doing?

I must admit I am getting a bit fed up with waiting, I just want to get things sorted.

  • I sent my first letter asking for refund of charges to HSBC 7 weeks ago tomorrow, i have this week filed at my local court.I have heard nothing in these 7 weeks except the Colin Langdale looking into it letter!
I spoke to a barrister friend who says they have 8 weeks from the day they receive the letter to get back to me, does that mean i may get a settlement offer in the next week? ( i would still continue to court for the rest now i have started ..but it would come in very handy at the moment! Any advice please?

I have compiled and sent off a list of all the charges HSBC have taken from my account for going over drawn and added intrest usig this site.

they have recived my letter and sent back a reply on the 29th march saying they will contact me once they have completed their investigations.
my letter was dated 16th march 2007

my 1st thourt about this letter was, its just a standard letter they send to evey one who trys to clame the charges back. so i wated until friday for a responce and called them. when i asked about what was going to happen i was told they would contact me on the 17th may 2007.

i was informed the reason why its taking so long is becasue lots of HSBC customers are all doing the same thing as my self.

should i send off the letter saying iam taking them to court or should i wate for the responce from HSBC

i have only requested 3 years worth of charges as for the last 3 years i have been with in my OD limit.

Their workload is not really your problem, so stick to your own timescale, send off the second letter and then take them to court. Miraculously, you will see that once you file a claim they manage to free some precious seconds up to deal with it.

They will try to put you off as long as they can as soon the charges may be reduced by FSA to a lower amount e.g. £10 and then you will only be able to claim the difference back. I had letters saying NO from Lloyds and i just kept sending the 2nd template letter threatening to take them to court and eventually they paid out without me actually having to file a court case!:rotfl:

  • HSBC.... Holding onto Steves Bank Charges

I'm sure we all have our favourite little meanings of these letters.

I had not received one written posted reply from HSBC until they sent me my statements on Saturday ... 307 pages!!! Luckily since I sent that request on 5th March I found the details online and composed the necessary letters but they never replied, other than to some emails saying the case was being dealt with.

Tuesday is MCOL time. Can anyone pleeease any this query. Some charges in my original payback request were from March 2001 - about £90 worth. On the statements HSBC they only go back to April, surprise surprise and I cant print the info from the net anymore, but I still have my original charges table with the charge dates and amounts.

Can I still include these charges in my claim on tuesday, as they were within 6years when I sent the letter asking for them back?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Good luck to you all

  • Just a quick query - has anyone successfully claimed back more than one set of charges from HSBC? We've just successfully claimed back 6 years worth - however, since January this year, we have accrued somewhere in the region of £400 of charges (what can I say, we've not had the best start to the year) and wonder whether we would be able to do a claim for that too.

    Has anyone been successful yet??
