hi, brand new poster but started the reclaim process a few weeks back. claiming on 2 accounts, both with hsbc. recieved the standard repsonse of "we are looking into it" today for both of these accounts, which has just made it inside the initial 14 day deadline which i set out in my original letter. having read through previous posts it would seem that hsbc are experiencing a backlog (poor them eh) so do you think i should proceed with my original timescale & send off the threat of court action tomorrow or give them a couple of weeks or so grace, in case the backlog is genuine & i only inflame the situation without giving them time to make me an initial offer?
any advice from fully paid back veterans of this process greatly appreciated.

Hiya - welcome to this forum!
Up to you whether to give them extra time or not. I chose to stick to the timescales recommended - they never gave me breathing space of a few extra days / couple of weeks, but just zapped me with bank charges.
If they've a backlog, that's their tough luck :D - they are in no position to be setting the timescales in the process.
To cumbrialasso7 - same advice again,

    IMHO

I've been thinking about reclaiming my bank charges for a few months now and to be honest just haven't got around to it.

However, I just logged in to my HSBC account and clicked the "Charges to be applied" button. £125!!

That's for being over my overdraft last month and several transactions going out within a couple of days.

Absolutely ridiculous, so I have just downloaded the letter and it will be on its way tomorrow.

Good for you! Have you checked your statements also, to see what other charges you can reclaim? Over 6 yrs, I found they'd taken almost £1000 off me unlawfully - my case is now at the Court stage, so I'm claiming interest back as well.
Post any questions you have about the process - there's always someone here willing to help/advise

    Good luck!

    Hi Pam

No, I haven't yet been able to view my statements. I have noticed that through my online banking they have reduced the length of history you can view. It's only a month now.

I have just printed off my letter to send requesting all charges over 6 years. I am sure that in total they are substantial!

I do kind of hope it is sorted in a friendly manner - I've been with HSBC for almost 20 years and besides these charges, they have been a fantastic bank. It would be a shame to have to move ... but, it is just a bank after all!

Quick question - just about to file my claim against HSBC online and have noticed that the first charge I was reclaiming is now more than 6 years old. It was within the 6 years when I wrote to ask them for details. Can I still claim for this??? Many thanks.

  • Hi - New here but have drawn fresh inspiration from this site. I've just had yet another row with HSBC, slapping me with yet more charges having told them three times over the last week no more money would be going into my account until the end of the month...@'(

What REALLY got me mad was the cheeky questions I was asked namely:

Did I have anyone with a credit/debit card to clear off the overdraft? They were somewhat taken aback to be told 'Yes - but my friends can't afford to lose the money. YOU on the other hand can afford to wait!'

The other winner was 'May I enquire why you are so far over your o/d limit?' Answer : 'Yes you may. Because of the corporate greed displayed by HSBC, and complete inability to understand basic English, i.e. I have no more money until the end of the month, this is the reason why' Silence followed...

Anyway - letter sent last week requesting payment of £5k+ within 14 days via Recorded Delivery. Letter received, so am sticking rigidly to the timetable recommended.

Should I submit a second claim requesting payment of charges added on since the letter was sent or simply add it to the original claim? Any help or advice welcome.

    Many thanks in advance

Real answer: Because I'm so crap at managing my money, why should I have to suffer, it someone elses fault, I have a complete inability to take any form of responsibility.

    Truly staggering.

Not at all - you may unstagger yourself now, and get off your high horse!! What I meant was that I have NO chance of getting rid of the overdraft because the bank keep putting on more charges before I have the opportunity to pay off the first lot.

It must be wonderful to be you huh? :)

Hi I sent my letter to my HSBC branch, addressed to Colin Langdale, on the 3rd April, recorded delivery, and today it was returned to sender, with 'refused' marked on the sticker.

What does this mean? DO I need to send the letter elsewhere? Or can I plough on and send them my letter before action? Surely they can't just 'refuse' post from their customers?

Thanks in advance for your help, I read these boards a lot but have not posted before...
Hi Tara did you send the letters to your local HSBC or did you send them to the HSBC at the Arlington Business Centre in Leeds. When I spoke to the service quality team they told me to send any letters to the Service Quality Team, HSBC Bank PLC, Arlington Centre, Millshaw, Parklane, LEEDS LS11 0PP. Their telephone number is 08456028006 but be prepared to wait at least 20 to 30 minutes, or you can email them at servicequality@hsbc.com.

Hope this is some help to you.
