Hello peeps. This is a long first post i'm afraid, with a lot of queries in it so please bear with me. I have been a pretty poor customer of HSBC for a few months now, and the charges have piled up, mostly through my own fault I will admit, yet I have no qualms about trying to get most of these charges back. I have accrued almost £2000 worth of charges in the last 6 years. They will almost definitely close my account when I ask, seeing me as very ungrateful. In theory, I've set an account up with the Co-op with a £480 overdraft limit as a parachute account.
Can I delay this account? They want to transfer my account from HSBC, which wont work due to my current OD being maxed out.
If not, it will take me forever to pay off the overdraft before claiming. I fear that due to the regularity of the bank 'allowing' me, at a huge cost I may add, to go over my agreed limit to keep my head above water, they will only offer a very small percentage back, close my account and land me in with hundreds of pounds of debt with collectors and court summons making life hell while I work off the remaining balance.
If I cant delay the parachute account, and am forced to set up a basic account, will any action against HSBC mean that if I reapply for a similar account after, it will be refused?
I've really tried to sort myself of late and the charges have stopped, but need to get back to a better point, I need some advice please.0 -

Hi Hippo
Don't worry about your overdraft when claiming your charges - they are 2 seperate issues. DOn't think you have to pay it off first - you don't - just claim every penny + interest back off them.
They are not in the habit of closing accounts when you calaim off them anyway. (see the poll at the head of the threads).
Just keep your parachute account open with a minimum of money as you might want to cahnge accounts afterwards anyway. (Even if you use your reclaimed money to pay off your overdraft).
They won't offer you a small percentage back either - even if they try that - just refuse. Its really irrelevant how you have run your account in the past - they have hammered you for it and its unlawful.
Have a look at the Debt Free Wannabes Threads for some really great advice on managing your money better in the future.
Above all dont worry - this will not get you into trouble - just get you out of it;)LBM 22nd February 2007 - Amount in debt £72,242.23:confused: one month on  £63,900;) 2nd month 60,000.09

Hiya
I think im about 3 weeks ahead of you (not sure all my stuffs at work n im at home) but i didnt get an acknowledgement letter until after my second letter..
Aslong as you know theyve got it and they tell u on the phone theyve got it then its ok .. its a pain waiting i know but for all us that simply cant afford to go to MCOL its the only option...
Keep ringing .. wait until u get a helpful person n ask if your offer letter is in `somebodys que` yet, say you spoke to someone the other day and they said it was..
HSBC KNOW at what stage your claim is at because they use the same sort of system as i do!! where work is qued onto the system with a deadline for it to be sent ..
Apparantly my letters been sent but as yet ive not received it .. im fuming, how long does it take?????????????
Ha i hope they are ready for my phone call on monday!!!!!!!!! im going to ask for a manager and demand they fax my letter to me, if they cant i will say i want it faxed to the bank near i work and i will refuse to leave said bank until i have my letter.. xx0 -
