Hi everyone, i'm just looking for advice really, I have sent off the final demand for my bank charges from HSBC, the 14 days are now up and I have heard nothing. I'm concerned about going to court as i really didn't manage my account at all well, I can just imagine myself being one of the ones who have a defence submitted against and they appear in court. I've demanded £1700, half of me thinks continue & the other half thinks give up as I could end up being a further £120 down....0

Well...of 115 cases I researched that were reported in the success thread only 4 went to court. The rest settled before that and some after only one letter. Dont worry too much and approach it methodically. Good luck0 -

The issue is not whether you handle your account well but whether the charges that are made are lawful and just. The banks are happy for us to feel guilty about the way we handle our accounts and hope this will intimidate people into not going all the way. The fact is the charges are plain wrong - focus on that.
I know that I can handle my finances better. Last week I received £1572 from LLoyds TSB. This has spured me on to taking more financial responsibility, but the Banks cannot be allowed to take advantage in this way“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.” Eckhart Tolle0 -

I know that the charges don't reflect the true cost, but the thought of displaying my statements from 5 years ago when I was young and very stupid is daunting!! I'm going to go for it, thanks for the advice! Going to submit the online claim this minute!0 -
Hi!
I started the process of reclaiming my charges recently and have just received my first bundle of statements for my old HSBC credit card (im guessing the current account will follow soon)
What i am stuck with is exaclt what charges i can get back.
Theres something called a 'Cash Advance Handling Charge' which has cropped up alot in the statements and am not sure what it is, and if i can get it back.
Im guessing that Late Payment fees are refundable, but wondered if there is a list in this thread (its too big to read page by page) that tells you every HSBC charge that you can claim back?
Cheers

Hi there all,
I've just received all my bank statements going back 6 years, and I have finished adding up all the charges and it comes to £5250, now I've read on here somewhere that I need to be careful trying to reclaim that amount, because its over the threshold for the Small Claims Court. Is this correct?? and of so what can I do about it? as I want the Shaaaby to pay me, they've messed me about for a few years and now its payback. Also, should I add the interest to this amount, if so how do i go about that???
TIA for the advice
Cheers

I am hoping to take my 2 terminally ill nephews to Disney in July and was hoping that this would be helping to pay!!
V - According to several posts on this threads about AQs, HSBC are tending to settle a few days before the court date which could take up to 28 days or so from the court receiving your AQ.
You have such a worthwhile reason for pursuing this, July is a few months away so you've got every reason to feel positive about planning to put your settlement towards a really amazing trip. All the best.Lou0 -
Nataliee - WHERE IS THAT LETTER? if it's not here today, don't you feel like ringing again? I couldn't stop myself if it was me.
p.s. i have my tissue ready.Lou0 -
Hi everyone,
I just put in a claim on MCOL for £570+int and court fees... just a bit confused as to what happens once the claim has been accepted...
Does the bank have 14 days to put in a defence or is it now 28 days??
I know before it was 14 days then if they don't acknowledge it you win by default... is it still possible to win by default after 14 days or do they have 28 days to acknowledge it then another 14 days to file a defence (totalting 42 days)...... if that makes any sence
Also I am due to move house in the near future... does it complicate the matter if my address changes while the claim is still active??
Thanks in advance...
LauraThanks to everyone that posts :T:money:
