I'm just typing out my letter to reclaim £100 worth of overdraft charges and I've got 2 questions.

1 - On the example letter from this site it states that I should insert the name and address of my bank. Is there a national address I should use for HSBC or am I meant to put in the address of the branch I use. The thing is the branch I have used before and that I set up the account with has recently closed.

2 - I have found the statements with the charges on, should I type in the charges on the letter itself or add it as an additional sheet. I'm going to photocopy the statements and them in with the letter too.

    Cheers
If you go through the step by step guide Martin has given you a chart to enter your charges in and it works out the interest for you. Print this off and send it with the letter.
On the help thread there is a list of address's for all the banks. I claimed from HSBC and just sent it to my local branch. I got £1161 so it works either way.
    Good luck

    1. The list of addresses is just for the first "send me a list of my charges" letter. After that you can send the "refund my money" letters to your local branch. If your branch has closed, there is no harm in sending your letter to head office.

    2. Put your charges on an additional sheet with Date, Amount and Type of charge. You can use the interest calculator to add interest on top but it is not necessary for the first letter.
    Reclaimed thanks to this site:

we got to the point of getting1-3 calls per day from india asking when there was money going into the account, even though they knew when payday was,my husband had 2 jobs, all the wages from his part time job going solely on charges, they rang time and time again, asking if we had other monies available to credit into the account, like we voluntarily were tolling up hundreds of pounds in charges! we said no, we were broke, we had no money, we had £3 in our hsbc savings account and they transfered that into the current account. after the second call one day, they rang again, maybe less than 15mins after second call, and told us to get the money into the account, lol, maybe we could just magic £800 out of nowhere, anyway, we were told, and these were their exact words, go and beg, borrow or steal from family or friends you need a minimum £500 in your account today! i have to say, i let them know exactly what i thought of them and hung up. from then on everytime i get a call with the 3 second delay before they talk i ask who it is, if its hsbc i simply put the fone down without another word!

Thats EXACTLY What They Did To Me, You Cant Even Speak To Them Though Because They Dont Have A Bloody Clue What Your Saying...The Only Words They Seem To Understand Are The Words They Want To Hear!!

Im SOOOOOOOOOO Glad Im Not With Them Now, I Honestly Felt Like Throwing My Phone Out The Window Every Time They Called Me !!  x

Cheers for that, I'll try and find the head office address now. I had two interest charges which came to around £1, so I'm not bothered about that.

  • Hi, firstly ive totalled up my charges and sent the letter with the list of charges, and had a letter back from HSBC saying basically sorry your unhappy we will look into it and get back to you, its been two weeks since i had this letter from them do i write again or sent the next stage letter? are they fobbing me off?
Secondly, in my local paper today, Evening Herald, Plymouth, there is a charity in cormwall who has taken this course of action and has been given back their money but given 30 days to move their money as HSBC are closing down their account. the artical says many other customers will be recieving the same letter. the letter also states there is no point complaining to the ombudsman as it is outside their jurisdiction, but the ombuds:confused man found in favour of a alliance and Leicster customer who had the same treatment. HSBC have denied this is a blanket repose to customers reclaiming charges but basically my question is can they lawfully do this?
  • I've found this...

    HSBC Bank plc
    8 Canada Square
    London
    E14 5HQ

Could someone confirm that this is the best place to send the letter to?

Carry On To The Next Stage...They Are Fobbing You Off...Its A Delaying Tactic They Are Using With Alot Of People!!

And As Far As I Know, The Banks Are Well Within There Rights To Close Your Account If You Claim From Them So I Would Set Up A New Account Elsewhere Just Incase..
