I'm not entirely surprised by this to be honest. I've seriously considered buying a Ford Focus twice when I've been changing cars, and on neither occasion would the dealers in the showroom shift off list price.

On the basis that nobody pays list price for a Ford I took my business elsewhere (VW and Toyota respectively). The Ford dealers just didn't seem interested in actually doing a deal.

Thanks JCP, this is exactly what I found.

Thanks for that but it was the Fiesta I was after.
I know there`s discount on the OLD Focus model to get rid of them before the launch of the new one.

At last we have got a couple of posters who live in the real world and know what`s going on around them instead of the armchair sages who sit pontificating and never get out of them.

    Thanks guys.

This is what I'd do too - brokers might offer a slightly better price but if the dealer network is so bad when trying to buy a car what are they going to be like when they need to support it?

    My final conclusion is this.

Over the past few years Ford have increased official list prices (RRP) way too high but have come out with the silly suggestion of "no one buys a Ford at list price
go to our dealers and get up to 20% off".

This silliness has now back-fired on them, with other manufacturers breathing down their necks for sales, and advertising their comparison models a lot cheaper.

Ford have now reduced their RRP, but of course there is now no discounts to be had,(although certain armchair pundits on this thread, who haven`t got out of them recently, think there still is).

Only discontinued models now have discounts on them in showrooms, such as the Focus.

So I will stick to my original thread title of New Car -- No Deal, but will add not in the dealer`s showroms
    ONLY ONLINE.

I`m now off to https://www.drivethedeal.com for a £1k discount. :rotfl:

So why would you still choose to give Ford your custom after moaning so much about their practises?

    The Fiesta isn't all that.

Exactly, I would not buy a Ford after that kind of experience with their Franchised Dealers.

As you suggest, the Fiesta isn't much of a car anyway.

The Ford main dealer who would only offer RRP when I phoned/visited them, which you`d be amazed at.

Yes, I am amazed. I have already posted details of Ford's current tactical marketing offers.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

    Did you check deal drivers?

I got my wife's Fiesta from them 3 years ago... very pleased with the transaction and the car came from Bristol Street in the end.

The local Bristol Street who we asked to price match the online price messed us around and in the end (despite saying they would) wouldn't get anywhere near matching the price.
A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.
  • What difference does it make if you are still getting a discount? My friend saved thousands at Autoebid and has never looked back. Open your mind to a world of possibilities.

Because you can often get a similar discount, sometimes even better, by negotiating direct with the dealer.
