New Car ------ No Deal

Yesterday I phoned two main Ford dealers for a price on a new Fiesta.
No part exchange, just a straight purchase.

Both came back with exactly the same price, which was the official Ford RRP.
That`s it
no discount, no haggling, no nothing, take it or leave it.

Two things spring to mind here, the so-called recession and how businesses are feeling the pain.(obviously not)

I would have thought these poor, hard-up motor dealers would have bitten my hand off to get a sale.

Going to https://www.drivethedeal.co.uk or https://www.autobytel.co.uk both get you at least £1,000 off, minimum.

The ironic thing is that these sites are only intermediaries who give your details to a MAIN DEALER who then contacts you and arranges your new car purchase.

So the main dealer on the high street can`t do you a deal but he can if you go through an online intermediary site.

Am I missing something?

Did you just ask for a price or did you try and do a deal and get knocked back?

Are you buying cash, no finance?

I didn't think anyone paid Ford RRP for ANYTHING :rotfl: (in fact I didn't think anyone paid full list price for any car)

Doubt they're too keen to do a deal over the phone anyway.

Ford are famous for giving huge discounts on their cars. This dealer must think you're some kind of mug if he is just offering full price.

Tell him you're going elsewhere unless he gives a decent price.

Paying cash, both local Ford main dealers.
Tried to haggle but to know avail, they just weren`t interested.
In fact one advised me to go with DTD when I told him their price.

As regards not doing a deal over the phone, why not, there`s no P/E involved, all I want is a price.
I would have to go to the dealership anyway if the price was OK.

My point is they couldn`t match the online price but you could end up getting it from them, at that same price, once your details have been passed on.

Thousands of £s can be saved by buying a car just a few months old

We bought a 5 month old Corsa design which had been registered but never sold, with only 18 miles on the clock and saved nearly £3K.

Have a look around some forecourts.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

The car manufacturers are not too keen on the UK market at the moment (exchange rates) so will supply the rest of Europe long before they will the UK.

So if you wat say a new Golf in Madrid you will have a minimum waiting time and they will supply you first. If they have any spare capacity on the last Sunday of the month they might bang together a few cars for the UK market.

    Why even consider a Ford?

They are at best mediocre, they are certainly over priced.

A few weeks ago I saved £5,000 pounds on my car, straight from the showroom, nought milage, with a lot of extras that I would usually have had to pay for, because it had been pre-registered by the dealers, coming up to March a lot of dealers will be doing this, you will be able to get great deals.

The dealer actually lost money, as I paid cash, and they lost the interest and fees.

Ford I wouldn't go for, there are too many of them out on the road, every other car you see is one, and I wanted something that the neighbours didnt have.

Firstly, you need to walk into a showroom, the sales staff won't even try to make a sale on the phone... They need to get you in person for the sales banter to work it's magic!!

Secondly, they were never in as much trouble as they claimed... The problems came from fleet buyers keeping cars for longer, NOT from individual customers not walking into the showroom.

All that's happened is millions of people thinking "oh they're desperate to sell, I'll get a huge discount"...... Well guess what? the DFS sale end's this weekend, and next weekend.... and the weekend after that......

    +1

I would go so far as to say they are told by Ford NOT to offer discounts over the phone, and i do know that manufacturers do 'quality checks' on salesmen.

Discounts are definitely out there - but its not just a matter of a quick phone call and the dealer will throw thousands off...
