Council move, not entitled to HB and running up huge debts!

Keeping my fingers crossed
It's the stairs that are the main problem. It will be so much easier in a bungalow [although it will probably be a ground floor flat].
I'm hoping for a bungalow though, with a rose bush growing over the front door0 -
I know a fair few people under various councils who have had new kitchens and bathrooms .
What makes you think the kitchens are top of the range ones (I mean come on there paid for by the council) if your friends hasnt had a new kitchen then you haven't seen them
I didn't say they were top of the range ones?
You said they were cheap and fell apart and I just asked how you knew?.
If my friend hasn't had one then I haven't seen them?
I have one in my kitchen
And before you ask, No, I didn't trash the other one to be allowed a new one, I only moved in last year and the house had a new bathroom and kitchen.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
If social housing is to be looked on as people's permanent homes then I don't really see why they should have kitchens and bathrooms paid for.0

That's a grumble with each council then.
Council/HA houses get updated every now and again with kitchens, bathrooms, double glazing if they haven't already got it, boilers and fencing etc
It could be 10-20 years before they replace something and it's the councils decision, you can't just ask them to replace something because you feel like a change.
I moved into this house last year and I'm greatful that the kitchen and bathroom was almost new.
I wouldn't expect an upgrade, and if needs be in the future, we would replace everything ourselves apart from the boiler.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Our total income is £1750 per month wages, £404 incapacity benfit, £120 CB and £400 CT & WTC as based on last year when I wasn't earning anywhere near as much. So in total about £2,500.
We contacted MP but not much help...just told to pay as much as we can and the council will accept repayment plan later
So let me get this right..
Rent £950 and Council Tax approx £100 so the roof over your head is about £1050 a month.
You have £2500 a month coming in and can't afford to live on £1500? Hell, £1500 a month is only £300 less than we've got coming in and out of that £1800 we've got £550 of mortgage and council tax to pay and I'd hardly say I felt like I was living in poverty.
Chuffin hell what the hell are you doing with the money, injecting it, smoking it or pi$$ing it up the wall? You must have a horrifically wasteful lifestyle not to afford to feed yourselves, clothe yourselves and pay for utility bills on £300 a week. Christ for £1500 a month after paying for the roof over my head I can live a hell of a good lifestyle , put the maximum into both my wife's and my cash ISAs and put a bucket load in both the kids accounts as well and not have to worry about not having any money to pay for anything.
Just to put it into perspective. You're taking the pi$$ complaining you're badly done to TBH.0 -

Wish that if people were going to post and pass judgement that they would read the whole thread...0 -
I was told all council properties were to be improved to the decent homes standard by 2010
http://www.decenthomesstandard.co.uk/about
My flat was built in 1978 and still had the original wiring and kitchen, which has now been updated, and I'm very grateful. I did look after the previous kitchen well even though it was in a shocking state really compared to the new one, I cleaned it up as best I could, I was always taught you make do with what you have
Good luck to the OP, hope you get it sorted out soon, your council should have done more to stop you being harassed.Strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government0 -
Take a step back for a second and read this and then rethink this thread and how lucky you actually are.
In January 2007 I left the father of my eldest 2 children after years of physical, mental, financial and sexual abuse.
In the past 4 years he has found me on multiple occasions (nhs records were being used to locate me).
I met someone else 2 years ago got into a relationship with him and fell pregnant with my 3rd child, I was found again I had to up and leave.
4 years on and I am sat in the 4th womens refuge. My children are aged 5, 4 and 1.
My 5 year old has attended 4 different schools already through no fault of our own because we have had to move for our own safety.
Last Wednesday someone with in social services made one hell of a mistake and revealed our location to someone that they shouldn't of. Myself and my children are now currently 'prisoners' within the refuge because there is nowhere else for the council to put us.
They don't have any temporary accommodation available, infact they don't have any accommodation at all! The nearest womens refuge with space is currently 90 miles away. Which would mean starting again in a new area AGAIN.
Private rented is very few and far between.
My children don't know what it is like to have a place to call home. They have lost everything on multiple occasions through no fault of their own.
You have enough money coming in to rent privately, instead of thinking that it is your right to be housed in a council house because you had one and it wasn't your fault you had to leave why don't you think about those that don't get that choice because there are people with enough disposable income taking up social housing when it is not a necessity.
Not a personal dig at the OP maybe just a dig in general because im now on month 5 of living in a refuge and have no idea where i could end up with my children next week.
Seriously you don't know how good you have it.0 -
Have edited my post for fear of causing an argument with the 'woe is me' crowd.0

I don't know what your original post said, but there is certainly nothing 'woe is me' about my post. My point was that the OP has the available finances to do something other than rely on social housing which others do need. And that quite honestly she doesn't know how good she has got it.
However bad anyones situation is there is ALWAYS someone out there worse off than yourself. I used my situation as an example. However at the same time I know there are people worse off out there than me.
Sometimes people have a blinkered view and don't see the wider picture, and sometimes people don't know how good they have it even when the situation looks bad.
Perhaps if you felt the need to edit what you originally had to say then perhaps you should edit your post again and remove the quote of my post also.0
