I have fitted a carpet, yep. It really isn't that difficult. You have to remember that the OP is moaning that they have no money, and therefore they should be looking to minimise their costs. Paying to have a carpet fitted in a house that is never going to be your is ridiculous.

    Disagree, DMG.

I have four flights of stairs in our house. I had to have the carpets fitted. I couldn't do it.

The house was never going to be mine and I will have to leave the carpet here. Maybe the council will rip it out, maybe they will keep it because it's a decent carpet ??

This has been my home for nearly 12 years. Why wouldn't I make improvements, spend money to make it look nice?

This is incorrect actually. If the council were more appropriately dealing with anti-social neighbours then we wouldn't be in such a tight spot now. I do plan on buying my council house so it will be mine forever :D

Are you going to be following the advice on making a complaint against the council, AimeesMum?

I thought the council had stopped new tenants from buying them?

Also isnt that a bit hypocritical of you, as it means one less council house that someone could desperately need in the future like you apparently do. you moan council houses are few and far between yet are prepared to take one away and allow others to go through what you are

This is my pet hate and I do wish, more than anything, that the RTB was withdrawn. There are precious few council houses left; it is wrong that people are allowed to buy them and even worse that they get substantial discounts.
  • It astonishes me that the council rent in the first house was only around £200. This only encourages people to be extravagant with their money making them less able to be self sufficient and make their own way in the world. Why are council rents so low? It's like parents who only charge their adult children a token amount for keep they haven't a clue about the real world.

Even still, I find it really hard to beleive that someone is arrested, charged and released all to be home within half an hour.
  • No we still have the right to buy and will be doing so. We have also been awarded a continuos period of rental from when we were first allocated the house so we would be hoping to buy in a few years. I never, once complained they were in short supply.

    I hope so too, DKAM.

They have agreed to a priority move and said it will be within 6 months, so should be moved by middle of April, although I can't see that happening now.

We are moving to an adapted place - no idea if that will be a bungalow or not, but I do hope it's nice. Can only keep my fingers crossed and hope it doesn't take too long, as we are struggling here.
Good luck hun, I can imagine it must be a big struggle for you, I hope it's not too much longer x

I also thought you needed heat to grow the stuff so it wouldn't produce much if grown in the garden, although I could be wrong.

Maybe the heat makes it grow quicker, which is what suppliers would do, and him growing it in the garden demonstrated that it 'could' be for medicinal purposes?
The odd low grade plant no, but, and I quote.."vast amounts of skunk" surely you would need more than a garden!

I would kinda agree with this in a private, 6 month rolling contract let. But I do think you could concede that council houses are a different kettle of fish? People live in council houses for years and years. The council doesn't provide carpets. It would make perfect sense to me to have it professionally done if my DIY skills weren't top notch - I'd bodge it myself with offcuts in a private let, yes, but in a permanent home?

Keeping my fingers crossed :) It's the stairs that are the main problem. It will be so much easier in a bungalow [although it will probably be a ground floor flat].

I'm hoping for a bungalow though, with a rose bush growing over the front door :D
