    I am considering using them.
I really like the fact that they will let my original installer of the boiler do the repairs.
The price on their website is being held for two years.
They don't just cover the boiler:
    Central Heating
    • Any Boiler repairs
    • Pump faults
    • Control systems including timers and thermostats
    • Radiators
    • Radiator valves
    • Central heating pipework
    • Hot water supply faults
    • Hot water tanks
    • Central heating header tank
    • Motorized Valves
    • PLUS - a new replacement boiler in the first 12 years if we cannot effect a repair
    Electrics
    • Fuse Boards and Boxes in your house
    • All circuit breakers in your house
    • All sockets and switches in your house
    • All light pendants in your house
    • Emergency call out for repairs in your house
    Plumbing
    • All hot water pipes
    • All cold water pipes
    • Overflows from your tanks
    • Emergency call out for repairs
    What's not covered?*
    • Pre-existing faults at the time of taking out the policy including system design faults or inaccessible components
    • Faults caused by the failure of gas, water or electrical supply services or consumer negligence
    • Any faults caused by sludge or blockages
    • Burst or leaking tanks or cisterns
    • Drains
    • Any perishable items, terminal ends or items that are replaceable, ie. tap washers, light bulbs, etc.
    • The water main from the street to your stopcock

    That all seems reasonable.
    Doug

    does this seem reasonable:

In the first three months of cover (inclusive of the 30 day period), repairs to and/or replacement of internal components of the central heating boiler (heat exchanger, expansion vessel, printed circuit board etc) are restricted to £300 arising from any one event. This restriction is in place as a result of some customers claiming for excessively costly boiler repairs in the first few days of cover. All repairs external to the boiler are still covered.

it used to be just the 1st 30...days but now restricted even more than ever,

They dont employ engineers, they subcontract out
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?

I changed over to them from British Gas in January this year.Within days I had a fault on my system and needed a visit.I rang the number and was informed an Engineer would call me back and within minutes he did and visited that same day and replaced a faulty part.
The following day the Engineer rang me asking if everything was ok and the following day I received a phone call from the Company asking if I was happy with my service.:T

i fint hsi hard to believe as they dont cover for the 1st 30days as per their t&c's:

Just my round-up of what I've read...

The negatives seem to be coming from concerns and observations relating to the legitimacy of the company. Having looked at the "Green installer" website, it's pretty clear from the use of graphics, pricing and the rest of it that the two things are certainly, in reality, one thing. No biggie I guess as lots of things get re-branded and re-packaged, although the need to do so is sometimes due to a reputation issue ("Yodel" / "Home Delivery Network" springs to mind). That said, the Green Installer site is still there so this is an additional brand rather than a re-brand I guess?

The positives seem to come from customer experience. I particularly like the details "Ziptrax" was able to add in, thanks for committing the time to do that :)

I've got a plan with this lot, and as mentioned in an earlier post, they service towards the end of the year, so I too will be without a service for 18 months, I was also advised that it was "ok" to do this so I figured they knew better than me.

If I have any need of their assistance (and honestly I hope I don't, no hot water sounds like no fun at all) I shall report back. Otherwise, I'll keep checking the thread just in case.

  • I rang today as I was offered there full plan with annual service for £19.99, it was a bit more expensive as I live inside the M25.

I read through the terms and conditions and one of the major concerns I had was the part that read that "Parts are not covered for wear & Tear". Now I have had an insurance company not pay out for a recent car repair extremely unfairly due to some small print and can see that this part of their T&C's could be used for almost any repair, after all most things break after time due to wear & tear.

I have just spoken to Corgi HomePlan by phone and they have confirmed that if they deem the breakdown or repair due to wear & tear I would not be covered.

    Just keep it in mind.

    Excellent spot.....

and in 3.1 whats not covered......

repressurizing the boiler of bleeding rads.....

Now boiler losing pressure could be caused by a number of faults, fault pressure relief valve...... a leak somewhere on the system, but as per their t&c's they wont be interested.

Also to note this company - Green Installer - originally used Corgi logo's and name without permission, and have since agreed a license fee, and also were call Corgi HomeCare, but have since had to rebrand to Corgi Homeplan.... i wonder what they were infringing there.... Homecare..... which is TM by British Gas.

I believe This was due to a recent trip to court!!

Rang Corgi (from trustcorgi.com) and it seems that they are the same Corgi as before, and it was only the licensing part that they no longer run.
The maintenance company is the same and it is a new business that they have started... so same od Corgi, and definitely not defunct, so no worries there..... worth calling though!:T
That was a very misleading reply from Corgi.

    1. They are NOT the same Corgi as the organisation that ran the Registered Gas Installers Scheme. It is a typical case of one entity forming another that then splits off and so on. Apart from owning the essential brand, there is precious little left. It's like the man that said he still had his grandfather's axe: his father changed the handle and he finally changed the blade.

    2. The Corgi that ran the scheme, was forbidden from making profit, and therefore did not at any time have a maintenance section.

    3. The current Corgi don't have and never have had anything to do with gas safety or gas registration.

    4. Afaik, their insurance scheme is based on subcontracting out the work that needs doing and just sit between you and the engineer collecting a large chunk of the money. I am sure you can figure out for yourself what the effect is on the quality of the service you get if 40p out of every pound disappears in the pockets of a middle man.

Corgi are or have recently been under investigation for illegal use of databases. They have some very clever lawyers and are working very close to the line separating legal from criminal, it is just not quite clear at the moment at which side they ended up.

    well said BengasMan.

    have a look here..... http://www.companiesintheuk.co.uk/ltd/green-installer

the MD is a man called Mark Leslie... his previous dealing has been in property.

All corgi operations are run in or around bournemouth, not scotland... all Mark Leslie's businesses have been in and around Edinburgh.

The letters these people send out are very misleading.....

    Quote:

We have provided over 90,000 maintenence plans this year to selected boiler owners like you. Why?

Maybe it's because Corgi are recognised experts in the Gas Industry? Maybe it's because Corgi was the gas regulator and has over 40years experience? However, we think it probaby becuase we:....'

IMO thats very misleading to customer. It implys this company has 40years experience, when infact they have 3.5yrs experience.

They are really playing the Corgi card here, a brand people know.

In all likelihood because they somehow managed to get hold of your details ( quite possibly illegally ).
The reason they selected you, is that they hope you are still alive and willing to part with your money. Very similar to the "you have been selected as a winner, just call 0906..... to claim your prize" scams.
  • Joined Corgi Homecare in April and had to recently call engineer for faulty boiler as had no heating. Had to wait 3 days for engineer as was told that no local engineers were available ! no apology even though response times advertised were far quicker than this. Was also told that annual service included in package could not be done until next March ie nearly 12 months after contract taken out ! When I tried to complain over the phone, was told to e mail. E mail not answered for 3 months and when having given up all hope and cancelled dirct debit, eventually a response received from the operations manager, again no apology or explantion - have therefore cancelled my contract and wished I hadnt wasted paying 7 months for nothing !
