    Hi
Just got my statements today, and sending letter claiming £5300 including interest, just wondering if anyone has been having success with Alliance & leicester, would like to hear.:o

There's a large thread somewhere on A&L and they're notorious for letting you reach the stage where you take them to court (i.e. ignoring the two letters asking for a refund of your charges). I've just sent off my second letter after they send the "standard" reply to the first. Now expecting a similar letter to my second one, so I'm preparing to take them to court. It seems most people go through this but, shortly after commencing court proceedings online, they pay up with the full amount, without it reaching court.

My charges are for £3k and I'm opening another bank account as I expect them to close this one down (again typical A&L!). A word of advice, find another account with the Direct Debit switching service (if you need it) as you'll have to ask the "new" bank to switch charges quickly before/if A&L close down your account.

Good luck ... loads of advice on this forum.icon7.gif

  • Oh you are in the same position as me :T,
A&L have cashed my cheque on 19/03/07, they currently have 13 days left to reply,
I am tempted to ring them if i thought for one minute i wouldnt be stuck in a huge que for ages to then get a snotty person on the other end to tell me, "we are dealing with your request and you will receive your statements shortly".
I keep going home in my lunch break to check the post this week, costing me a fortune in petrol, I am about to pop home in a min, just thought i would check for updates on here.
Sorry I will answer your question now, if i dont get the information in the 40 days i am going to go to the Information Commissioner on the 40th day, once i have done another journey home to check the post, hope that helps,

    GOOD LUCK

I have just phoned A&L on 0800 0686069, this is the number to open a new account but i'm not wasting money ringing A&L 0870 number, any way they put you through to Customer Services from there so it worth keeping instead of paying a fortune and you dont have to wait as they think it is a new customer and dont keep you waiting, they did exactly what i expected but assured me that i would get the statements within the 40 days, it was worth a chase though.

I have three accounts with the alliance & leicester and have been successful if obtaining reclaimed bank charges from two of them (the third I had no charges to reclaim).:j

My advice is to keep following Martins layout and take strength from other members who have kept going and you will succeed.

Yes - A/L do seem to drag it out.

Yes - They do tend to let you issue court summons

However - They also seem to pay up after this has happened after a week or two.

Yes - They do close your account. They have written to let me know they are closing both the accounts (one mine, one joint) as we are 'obviously unable to accept their terms and conditions', which is petty as they have not closed my third joint account - if they didn't want us as customers why not shut everything!

Anyway, keep going and keep reading this thread for encouragement, that's what I did. Good Luck.:T

I'm trying to fill in the form online to commence court proceedings, but cannot seem to get beyond step 4. I've filled in the A&L Narborough address, looked up the postcode and it won't let me select anything, but keeps sending me back to the address page. Also, it states on the page that & cannot be used (only and), but this is automatically inserted when I ask for postcode verification, so keep getting errors.

Can anyone tell me exactly how to format the name/address so it's accepted?

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi MimiJane,

As far as I remember I used the following address for my online claim:

    Alliance & Leicester
    Bootle
    Merseyside
    GIR OAA

    Hope that's of help.

Thanks, but unfortunately I used the Narborough, Leicester address in my original two letters, so presume I have to use the same one online?

Today, I am going to start my first steps in reclaiming unfair bank charges against Alliance & Leicester.
If all goes well, then I will reclaim against Lloyds TSB (a full 6 years, so a lot of charges) later on.

I have a few questions first....

    1) It is best to close the accounts(one premier account & one savings) down today? They only have a total of £3.93 in them. That way no more £5.00 underfunding fee.

    2) I have two seperate charges of £34 for unpaid direct debits. At the time I phoned them and they refunded 50% back, so do I only claim £17 for each charge(plus interest)?

    3) I opened my account online, so my branch address is the one in Bootle, Merseyside, GIR 0AA.
Do I use this address for all the letters? I have a record of all my charges from my bank statements. so the first letter I am sending is to ask for all the charges back.
  • I posted the second letter to A&L on 21st March after receiving the initial response to first. It was sent recorded delivery and they havent yet received it checked by phone and also with Royal Mail. Royal Mail will not look into the missing letter yet saying that they have to wait til 11th April  for it to be declared missing.

Should I wait that length of time or just send another copy of the letter. Has anyone else experienced loss of letters?

It was the Merseyside address for 1st letter and then Carlton Park for 3rd and 4th does it not tell you on the main web page which address you need to put down for the court, i would of thought it was the Carlton Park address as this is there Head Office, if i can find it i will post it on here for you
