after rechecking my 6 years of statements and ommiting the 'monthly od charge' charges, the chq that i recieved this morning would appear to be correct.

however, i dont understand how one month i can have a 'monthly od charge' of £5 (+interest), and the next month i can be charged £25 (+ interest).

is this standard practice from these muppets and in no way refundable?

    thanks

I had that with A&L, when i went back through some old statements that i had, in 2003 i was being charged £5.00 for the monthly o/d but in 2005 with the same account and o/d limit it had gone up to £25.00 p/m o/d charge, very steep those changes were, not something i paid attention to when i was with them though, i was too interested in seeing how much they were robbing me for going over the over draft limit

Shocking, as you point out, this a blatent lie.

A&L seem to think closing accounts will make all their claims go away!!

Came home Friday night to find a cheque from A&L for £593, £100 more than my claim! Then went on line to check bank balance. They have delayed depositing my pay until the day after all my monthly direct debits were due. They have rejected all my direct debits except one; this one was enough to exceed my overdraft. They have now charged me for eight failed direct debits and two unauthorised overdraft charges; a total of £322 in just one day!!

I immediately rang them to complain and was told that my pay "must have been delayed in the BACS system, terribly unfortunate but there's nothing we can do." I informed them that I would simply take them to court again to reclaim the money. They claimed that my account would be closed before that happened so I wouldn't be able to proceed with any further claims against them. Lying B@$+@rds!

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's back to court we go!

I thought that is why we had to set up the "Parachute Account" as banks were especially A&L were closing accounts once they had paid out. I closed my A&L account a year ago and i am still claiming, it should just give you more amunition to take them all the way, it is with me, they have absolutly no customer service skills what so ever

I am in the process of helping my son claim £575.45 from Alliance and Leicester, this is the 3rd letter sent asking them to repay or face court action. will this work or does he have to fork out the £80 costs to the small claims court, and if he does how do we go about it.
He's a student and i have heard that banks can be lenient with students, does anybody know ??? please help:confused:
  • from what i have read on this forum, i think people are actually starting court proceedings, and then A&L are paying up with a few days to spare, you get the court fees back though, if you win, but i havent heard of anyone who hasnt won (please correct me if wrong), I havent got to this stage yet, i have only sent the 1st letter and awaiting a reply from them.

Ok what does this mean exactly?? :o I advised Alliance and Leicester that i was taking them to court if they didnt repay the charges and they refused so on Thursday last week, i filed my claim online. I have today recd a letter from the bank saying

"please find enclosed a copy of the Acknowledgement of Service that we have filed with Northampton County Court"

Exactly what does that mean to me? Have they submitted a defense or does this mean they intend to let me take them to court? I've only asked them for £549.68 including interest. Was kinds hoping that i'd win by default but not sure if this means theres no chance of that now.
    Any help please?? :o

Hello, im not 100% sure what it means either but i had the same thing from the Halifax and Capital One.
Capital One paid up yesterday £1177 - 17 days after Acknowledgement letter

Hailfax paid up today £281 - 11 days after Acknowledgement

    Fingers Crossed for you

  • Elsie,

I too have a claim with A+L 'acknowledged.' Reading this forum it seems A+L quite often settle towards the end of the 28 days they have to submit a defence from the date they acknowledged the claim.

Yesterday + 28 days = 5th April I think so hopefully lots of Easter eggs for you!

    Good luck

Thnks BarnesWallace. I've had the same letter today from the court and noticed that on the court form Alliance and Leicester have stated they intend to defend themselves. EEK!!!!
I'm quite worried at this point, but i'm gonna keep on going.

  • Well i sent my first letter to A&L 01/03/07 via special delivery to get there by 1pm on 02/03/07, typical of the post office they have lost it, well they reckon it has been delivered but have "mis-placed" the signature, yet A&L have not cashed my x2 cheques for £10 each yet, so i am now trying to claim compensation from royal mail and have to start all over again, this is not a good sign
