  • Happy Days and Party Time A+L acknoweldged my claim on the 27th Feb. This morning I get a cheque for £1800 about £50 more than I claimed with the usual letter.

It seems they don't want me to bank with them anymore. I am weeping. I am so sad to sever my ties with such an upstanding organisation.

    And walking away debt free!!!!

Thank you all and best of luck. Don't be scared - we are right on this one.
  • I sent a letter on 26th Feb asking for list of charges and enclosing a £10 cheque. No sign of it being cashed yet so I will be ringing them next week to hurry them along. I went online to check my statements and there is only roughly 6 months on there - I added up what was on them and it came to just over £400 pounds without any interest (I even got a £34 pound charge for bouncing a £10.49 direct debit the same day my wages went in). I've only been in this bank for 2 years and god I hate it! I know its probably hard to believe but Barclays were better than this shower, you could train a monkey to be better than their customer service people!
  • I have written two letters to my bank and just had the usual response of everything being lawful etc etc, so i now want to claim through moneyclaim. However this will cost £130 and i dont have the cash at the moment until payday. Can anyone who has claimed through this site tell me roughly how long it took to get their costs back ? My bank is Alliance and Leicester if that helps ! thanks x

    Hello

I was in this same situation a couple of weeks ago thinking that I didn't have £120 to send off to moneyclaim, so I sent a third letter to the A&L similar to the 2nd but headed it in bold letters FINAL LETTER BEFORE COURT ACTION.
I also added that I had be in touch with Watchdog and told them of me case
which was not true but hey if they can scare us in final letters why can't we do the same to them. I ended the letter saying that I looked forward to a full response within 7 days together with a cheque for the full amount (£1103)
otherwise I will be commencing court proceedings.

Last week I got a call on my mobile from A&L they said that they had received my letter and they would like to make me an offer of £650 and would I except, I said no, they asked me what would I except I said £900, this has just gone back into my account today. So my advice to you would be to perhaps send a third letter but make it more direct and to the point.

I'm well pleased I done this and happy I got a good result. Good Luck

Came home Friday night to find a cheque from A&L for £593, £100 more than my claim! Then went on line to check bank balance. They have delayed depositing my pay until the day after all my monthly direct debits were due. They have rejected all my direct debits except one; this one was enough to exceed my overdraft. They have now charged me for eight failed direct debits and two unauthorised overdraft charges; a total of £322 in just one day!!

I immediately rang them to complain and was told that my pay "must have been delayed in the BACS system, terribly unfortunate but there's nothing we can do." I informed them that I would simply take them to court again to reclaim the money. They claimed that my account would be closed before that happened so I wouldn't be able to proceed with any further claims against them. Lying B@$+@rds!

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's back to court we go!

UPDATE: They are "sorry" to learn that the latest charges on my account "have been the cause of dissatisfaction" and as "a gesture of goodwill" have refunded £34.

Do they hire comedians to write this rubbish or does working for a bank require you to disown your basic human decency? I could only write something like that if I no longer regarded my customers as human beings.

Sue the mongrels for every last penny!!

Well it looks like after they realised I cashed the cheque they sent they have decided to close my account, hey ho now I will claim the other £1600 that was above the small claims limit. I suppose if they hadnt closed my account I probably would have let it lie at £5k win and gone after my credit card companies
  • Well i sent my first letter to A&L 01/03/07 via special delivery to get there by 1pm on 02/03/07, typical of the post office they have lost it, well they reckon it has been delivered but have "mis-placed" the signature, yet A&L have not cashed my x2 cheques for £10 each yet,

Just got an e-mail from royal mail, they had 19 letters to post to A&L on the same date i sent my letters, thats why i havent got a signiture, they have given me a signiture for all 19, explains why they still havent cashed my cheque, thay are very busy at the minute. looks like it is going to be a long ride with them, obviously got an awful lot of people wanting there money back.

  • They do seem very slow to deal wth. I requested all my statements from them and they only have 7 days left to respond otherwise I will be reporting them to IC however they were very fast in cashing my cheque. That was done about 3 days after they had my letter.

How long has everyone else waited for statements from A&L?

A&L are up to Day 20 since they cashed the cheque today. I gave them a call a couple of days after they cashed the cheque and the person I spoke to said she'd inform the relevant department but it looks like they're dragging their heels.

  • Hi,

Im wondering if anyone could give me some help. I wrote the initial letter and sent it away 4 weeks ago now with the £10 cheque to get my statements and have still heard nothing. But they havent even cashed the cheque yet so im beginning to think that they are choosing to ignore my letter.

Dont know what to do? Thinking of writing another letter and sending another cheque today and sending it recorded delivery so i know they have recieved it. What do you think shall i do that. I am at my wits end now as i got another £64 of charges greeting me this morning due to them paying a direct debit for me as my money was 2 days late going in! i mean how can they justify this!? I really am upset now and have to stop myself ringing them and losing my temper to some poor telesales person!

Help and advice is very greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.
