    Hi
Ive jus got my statements back from A & L for my old credit card.

Can anyone advice what charges I can claim back? I've got loads which said "Cash Advance Fee" all of which are £2?

    Also "Card Peotect Tel" £20,

I've just started entering the competitions (July 07). When I win I'll update this signature. Look on the bright side, I shouldn't have to update it very often.

This is a cashpoint withdrawl, not reclaimable.
    Also "Card Peotect Tel" £20,

Sounds like a card protection policy, if so, again not reclaimable.
  • I have just put my claim in on Moneyclaim against Alliance & Leicester - and am absolutely pooing my pants!!!

    1. Are A&L likely to close my bank account?
    2. Are they likely to defend the case?
    3. On Moneyclaim it says they have 14 days to defend - what happens after that? What do I need to do?
    4. Will their defense come to me or go to Moneyclaim?

    Any help much appreciated!!!
  • I was not aware that banks charge customers for going into overdraft during a day, even if the start and end balance on that day are positive - has anyone else ? We have a Premier Direct Current account with A&L with a linked saver a/c. We had a balance of £513.56 and arranged a payment to go out on 26.02.07 for £566.00, so arranged to transfer £550 in from the linked savings to arrive in the account on 26.02.07, to cover the payment. However, A&L took the £566 out before putting the £550 in (making us appear overdrawn during the day) and we have been charged £25 for the privilege. We called A&L who have refunded £12.50, so we're £12.50 out of pocket which we'll try and get back. Just to know if this is now common in the banking world - it's the first time it's happened to us
  • Hi!

I sent a letter to A&L requesting list of charges as I had a loan with them. This loan was settled in 2004 but I know I definately missed quite a lot of payments on this loan as I got into a bit of a state.

However, I received this reply from them yesterday:

"I understand you were requesting details of any charges which were incurred on the above personal loan account which was completed in 2004.
I can confirm that no administration charges or fees were applied during the life of this account"

I presume they couldn't lie about this but don't understand how they haven't made any charges when I missed a lot of payments.

Has anyone else had a loan with them around 2004 and if so, did you get charged for missing payments etc?

Any advice on what to do next? Do I just take there word or ask for a full copy of statements? Don't want to pay a fee if they are correct though

    hi mate,

mine too has been 'acknowledged' since 1st feb, and the acknowledgement receipt i got through post said they intended to defend. i think this is pretty standard stuff, as doing this gives them 28 days before they have to act. by the end of the 28 dyas they'll have either paid up or u'll be off to court. thats if they dont settle before court date!

    dont worry, either way.

Thanks for the reply, I just got a letter today and cheque from A&L settling the full amount of £650... not bad since I only asked for £523 (including interest)... AND I sent a letter last week offering to settle for £500 and stop the court proceedings...
They also said they would be in contact about my account, I presume they are going to close it, although unlucky them I closed it myself last year :)
    Happy days!!
Oh in addition how do I cancel my court case with moneyclaim???
I cant seem to find anywhere online I can do it??
  • I received a letter today from the complaints department.

They are offering £1,000 out the £3,000.

    They are saying
The office of fair trading (OFT) has commented that they consider the level of late payment charges to be unfair, however they were actually referring to late payment fees for credit cards payments, which are quite distinct from a bank charges on current accounts. There are on going discussions with OFT but as yet, the OFT have not made a decision.

I don't intend to accept this offer any ideas where I can get a letter or OFT info to say they are not only talking about credit cards.

The bank are correct, however this does not affect your claim. Just continue with the process.
  • Hello, sorry if i mess up i am new too all of this. :p
I closed my Alliance & Leicester Current Account over a year ago as I was not happy with the way they do business, contstantly changing rules to suit them. I was going through a rough patch, just been made redundant, 6mths pregnant, i asked for a overdraft but they refused as i had gone over my overdraft in the past 3 mths. This lead to them charging me anything upto £500.00 per month on some occasions:eek: , this went on for months, they would say that D/D and S/O came out before my partners wages were paid in, but Internet banking said different. After many arguments with them I closed the account.
For the past year I have been dealing with Citizen's Advice Bureau to help me clear off my debts that were incurred during the period that A&L found it necissary to bang me with charge after charge after charge. (it's funny but banks really do like to kick u when u are already down, how do they ever expect us to sort ourselves out if once we go overdrawn they take money out of the account, which sends us more overdrawn, so again they bang us with another charge.)
By 2012 I should be debt free :T , but for now I shall enjoy claiming back the money that A&L took off me month after month. Its funny coz at the minute I am paying back A&L £7.10 p/m for charges that are still on the account and they add on £4.17 interest p/m, please explain?
