Right guys...
I've sent a couple of emails to wragge to try and settle before october - court date - and got a reply late last night (seems mr sargent is working hard) saying that 'a formal reply will be with you next week'.
I offered to settle for a bit less, but lets see what happens.

Hi can anyone advise me on what to do next, I sent a letter to the A&L on the 5/5/07 asking for my list of bank charges, They sent me them on the 22/5/07, I then sent them the second letter on the 13/6/07 and they replied on the 20/6/07 saying that the charges were right. I then issued them with letter 3 on the 22/6/07 stating court proceedings and since then I have not heard from them. should I apply for court or try and ring them.

I'm going to see my solicitor tomorrow for some advice as even though all the help here is abundant and wonderful I'm just not that confident with getting all my papers in order. I'll come back and let you know what he said, it may be of some help to some but in a brief chat on the phone last week he said that I'd be allowed to make a written representation and not attend because it was transfered from my local court to Cardiff.
Thanks for that. It would be great if you would let me know what was said.
cheers.

Great news for you,
let me know when you hear,
Am not bothered now if i go to court or not, as it sounds like many offers are being made before dates, although i may just email them and see, i have had lots of withheld numbers on my phone of late, maybe just wishfull thinking, could be wragge!!!! my dad gave me a cutting today out of a newspaper that he was reading, stating that a particular court, not sure which one, has asked 2 banks and one of them being, GUESS WHO, A&L and i think, but not sure, Yorkshire Bank, to declare the true costs of their charges, and to state exactly how they amount to their charges!!! so this is a good thing for all claiments,
Will keep in touch,
14 days to go to court and counting,

Hi all.
I've been considering taking reclaim action against Alliance + Leicester Bank for several
weeks, and after checking through a random selection of my A+L statements dating
back to 23rd August 2006, I have found they've taken a total of £452 in charges
in those ten months alone! I've only been with A+L since December 2005, and
there've been a few other charges since I opened this account.
As I've only been an Alliance + Leicester customer for just over 18 months now, I've re-
worded the initial letter requesting full details of the charges that have been levied
to my account since it was opened. How does this sound ... ?Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writng to request a fully comprehensive list of all the default charges for
direct debits, unauthorised overdrafts and standing orders I have paid on
my account since it was opened in late 2005.
Please find enclosed a cheque for the maximum statutory charge of £10.
If you are unable to provide this information, I will accept a copy of all
my statements since the account was opened.
I understand that the statements alone are not specifically covered by
the Data Protection Act (DPA), yet I am requesting the statements
per se, but the charges, of which I am entitled to by law.
If you stor any of the records on microfiche, please be aware that
the Information Commisioner deems this to be a relevant filling
system under the Act. As such, any microfiche data must be
sent to me in fully legible and comprehensible form.
I look forward to your response within 40 days, as all banks are
obliged to reply to such requests under the terms of the DPA.
If not, I shall seek remedy from the Information Commissioner.
Thank you for your attention in this matter.
Yours faithfully.

Dear All
My court case was due on this Wednesday. Yesterday I called Wragge & Co.
They had been trying to get hold of me but had my home number from a house I lived in 3 years ago!?
They offered me the amount of charges + court fee total of £575.00. I did claim the interest (approx £100) but decided that that was good enough for me.
Especially since I had lost about half of the bank statements over the last 6 months and only submitted about £200 worth of evidence in my court bundle!!!
The money appeared in my account this morning.
So to all you out there: Keep going!
To all those who offered advice (MimiJane in particular): Thank you and good luck!!0 -
