  • Whilst rummaging through my mortgage papers to put in a claim for exit fees I noticed that I had actually been charged quite a few £30's by the mortgage company for direct debits that had been returned. Is it possible to reclaim these charges in the same way as reclaiming bank charges?
  • Need any help possible please. cut a big long story short my sister had a stroke 6 years ago, got behind through no payment protection and over last 6 years have had thousands of charges when missed mortgage date. got the arrears recently put back into the mortgage and was curious if she had any chance of getting any of the charges back, still with halifax but she doesnt want to take risk of losing her home and wasnt going to try to get charges back if it meant halifax could somehow cause her problems. not a bank account its just a mortage account. thanks very much sorry its long winded

    Hi there
Have read through the threads with various questions about claiming back charges for late payments/bounced direct debits etc.. with Mortgage Lenders and to that end am about to draft my first letter to Birmingham Midshires in respect of an old account with them for various collections fees.

Whilst this mortgage was running I got into arrears and it was necessary for them to charge me with Solicitors costs of over £400. Am I assuming correctly that is a charge I will not be able to claim back from them?

Any ideas, please would be appreciated?

    Many thanks
    Debbie

  • I had a similar problem with GE Money, they refunded my charges but would not refund the Solicitors costs
  • Have read, digested and followed through the advice on this site, but I still have a query. Can I claim back fees incurred for returned unpaid direct debits or bounced cheques made by my mutual bulding society mortgage lender?

And what about the same charges applied to personal loan accounts?

    Ta muchly.

    Bump.
I have exactly the same question I think.

Often I have ended up missing direct debits on my mortgage.
(Sometimes thanks to the bank charges)
The mortgage company have charged me £35 each time and they add this to the overall debt and charge interest on that as well.
Just like banks it is part of the terms and conditions but I suspect that just like banks these terms might be unfair.
Has anybody attempted to recover these charges or is it a completely different case?
I am just waiting for my bank's response to a demand for the return of over £2,500 in past charges.

You can reclaim them is the simple answer. The repercussions of which I am not so sure of. Perhaps someone who has done this and not suffered for it can advise. I wish you luck :)
