hi
yes im in the middle of recaliming charges from a mortgage company. it isnt as easy as bank charges and there are more things you need to consider. my advice would be to not go to court with it. by all means complain to the company and if you get no joy from that take it to the FOS.
good luck

Ive found that last year our mortgage lender, The Halifax, charged me £35 for a letter for a late payment. Is it possible to get this back? Ive spoken to a legal friend who seemed to think this is in-line with the bank account charges and therefore a quick letter to them would result in a claim.
thanks in advance.0 -

Hi
PLEASE be aware that it not as simple to get back mortgage charges. NEVER take them to court. There are good reasons for this but i will not give them here message me if you want to know. By all means ask for the charges back and take it to the ombudsman but not court.

Hello,
I`m just looking for some advice please ? I have just taken a phone call from a company saying they have had information passed to them that we have overpaid on a loan we had before 1999. I told her we hadn`t overpaid on anything, thanked her for her call and hung up. The same person then kept ringing back, until I eventually answered and she told me a load of blurb about her working for a consumer company, they had had information passed onto them that we may be owed money, she just wanted to check some details, her company was regulated by `blah blah` and she mentioned something about courts (?). Anyway to cut a long story short, she told me my claim had been classed as `reactive` so she would pass me on to her colleague who would help me set the ball rolling to see if I could claim this money back.
The `colleague` then wanted details of any loan, credit card etc we had had before 1999 (?) that we may have paid PPI on. I told her as far as I was aware we had never taken any out, apart from one on our mortgage, which I had benefited from when I had an accident. I was then told that I would not know I had taken it out on my credit card, to which I replied I see the statements and there is NO mention of PPI, only to be told they hide it in the interest so it wouldn`t show on the statement (?).
The `colleague` is sending me a form out to read and sign so they can check if I am owed money. Now, I believe this is a company fishing for details so they can find out if I am owed anything, then they will get it back for me at a huge charge, but so far no mention of them being paid, or any charges, has been mentioned. I did ask why they needed to know if I had credit cards etc if they supposedly already had info telling them I was owed money ? Surely if they have been told I am owed money from someone, this `someone` must have said who they are ?
It has all been made to sound like a third party has contacted them saying they owe me money and they need to check my details so I can receive this money.
It all sounds like a con to me, I have no intention of continuing with this supposed `claim` unless I do it myself, but is it true that credit card companies sold PPI and it does not appear on statements, but is hidden in interest charges ?0
