    Hi

Just thought people might be interested to know that I applied the same premise to Current account charges to the costs that I incurred on my Mortgage with the Halifax. A few years ago we had a few problems and being the benevolent organisation that the Halifax is they decided to use this as an opportunity to charge us £35 on a regular basis. The toothless FSA did nothing to help us when we complained about these charges. However two weeks ago after reclaiming my current account charges I thought I'd see if I could reclaim the mortgage ones. I used exactly the same letter that is on this website for bank charges. Well what do you know this morning I received a letter from the Halifax, with an offer by them to refund all the arrears charges incurred on my mortgage to the sum of £550.

I've been going through my GE Money loan statement and as well as all the charges for direct debit recall charges & the 'admin fees' they then like to charge I've also noticed some 'Additional Interest' amounts appearing in the debit column which I can only presume are there because of charges.
 Am I able to claim for those amounts also ?

Bump!! just after any thoughts please
  • Hi
Have been reading all the info from you all regarding bank charges, I need some help regarding a secured loan we had, (iam now divorced). The loan was with GE Money home lending for 60 months we borrowed 17,000. starting in June 2001. We were in an awful mess and finally when we separated and bought our own homes we paid everything off. Obviously now a single mother iam eager to reclaim whatever i can. I have received all our info as per the 1st letter today, and it seems that even after we paid the settlement figure quoted by them on 5/11/02 they have still put charges onto the account ie solicitor discharge fee 337.38 + 158.58 on the same day income on early settlement 642.79 interest 161.39 on22/11/02 and throughout the months we had the loan there was interest, additional interest monthly arrears charges D/N Fee etc etc so i wondered if anyone can make sense of this and let me know what i can reclaim. Their settlement figure was valid until 22/11/02 and we paid the amount they requested in full.
    Many thanks

I have 2 secured loans on my property.
Recently I aquired the redemption figures for these loans as I have sold my home.
They are charging me £25 for calls made to me when payment was late and also £30 for other letters.
In total they amount to over £2,000.
Can I reclaim these charges in the same principle as bank charges bearing in mind it does NOT cost £30 to send an automated letter or cost £25 for a 2 minute phone call.
    Thanks.

 I have a current account with Barclays and my mortgage with Woolwich. I stupidly got myself into a catch 22 situation and missed payments on my mortgage (I was robbing Peter to pay Paul). Every month I am being charged £40. Woolwich/Barclays took me to court for a possession order but Judge did not grant as I am already paying money off my arrears. I want to claim from Barclays unfair charges but does anyone know if I can get money back from Woolwich. £40 seems totally unfair and I get nothing for that not even a letter. When I took mortgage out it was £20 but then suddenly doubled with no explanation. My fault for missing payments but want to get finances back on track asap
  • Hi. Would someone please tell me if claiming bank charges back applies to mortgage acounts as well? I have always been in arrears with the halifax and get charged fortunes for it.

    Thanks.
