I too have the original platinum card, but just took out the capital one 1% cashback card as the tesco card equates to about 0.5% cashback if you don't do the deals (and we don't get anything from the deals for reasons already mentioned on this thread).
So we will use our clubcard in store and then pay with the capital one card
But like others I also find Lidl to be much much cheaper for a lot of things and we do at least half if not more of our shop there anyway now.
I used to really like Tesco, but their constant downgrades to their good policies has put me off them. If they are not careful it will be just as bad as ASDA :eek:0 -
So in a nutshell , if I only use the visa card to get points, basicaly use it everywhere, am I better keeping the visa or switching to the mastercard?0

Neither, really.
Depending on how much you spend a year (because the annual fee is £8 net after the annual £10 bonus they oddly make to you) you'll probably be better off ditching the Tesco card altogether and getting a Capital One World Mastercard. That gets you 1% cashback everywhere, as against Tesco's 0.5%. The value of the Deals is unlikely to make up the difference for the reasons discussed above.0 -

I called this morning to keep my Visa card, the deadline is 20th February, so not long till then, a surprisingly short window.jackieblack wrote: »Did you get much resistance?
I'm leaning that way myself but when I 'phoned them to discuss just got a major sales pitch which didn't actually address my concerns, then got cut off! :mad:They just said don't you want the 650 points, I said I don't want this card, they said OK we'll confirm by letter and the Visa card will be retained.kheemonahs wrote: »Rang up to keep my Visa this morning, no problems or marketing chat.
Only 6 days left for those who wish to do the same! :money:
I also rang this morning, no problem this time, no attempt to persuade me otherwise or even asked if there was any particular reason, just took my details and said that would be fine.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

I have rung tesco this am to refuse their world mastercard, keeping my platinum.
They did not even ask why...that makes me think they are getting a few refusals.0 -
I've had a tesco finest platinum visa card for years and despite the marketing info and the comments on here (not saying I don't believe them) I just do not believe that tesco would "upgrade" customers unless they were benefitting in a big way.
So being the cynic that I am I called to advise I wanted to keep my existing card.
I got the sales pitch and politely repeated I did not wish the new card and wanted to keep my existing one. I was asked why to which I replied I didn't wish to answer. The adviser then told me she "had to input a reason into her computer or she couldn't let me keep my card". Well put on the spot I decided to be creative and said that I didn't like the colour of the new cards. Her response to that was "ok, I've updated the records and your existing card will continue". What a ridiculous reply and she didn't question me.
Maybe I should have been honest and said it was because I didn't trust them as far as I could spit but the deed is done now!
I'm happy with the existing card and you don't miss what you never had so I'm not sorry to be declining their kind offer0 -
I opted out today too, got the sales spiel told them I already had a mastercard and wanted both visa and mastercard. He then said what is the rate on the current MC, my reply 'doesn't matter it always gets paid off' that confused him..0

I can see very good reasons for moving away from Tesco cards altogether for better deals elsewhere, but does anyone have a particularly good reason for wanting to keep the old card?
I haven't really seen one yet.0 -

This is just a rather underhand way of reducing by half the points you currently get with your existing card.:money:
Also posted from me.
Its done.
I had a Mastercard as well as a Visa a few years ago and hardly ever used it. The visa was accepted almost everywhere as was not the case with Mastercard.
I finally cancelled it.
There are also many references in these posts to less points on newer cards!0
