I don't know if this is the only thread, as this was the first one that came up earlier & I phoned Tesco immediately.
In case this is useful to anyone else, I have a Tesco Visa card held since March 1999. It arrived whilst I was out of the country in February, & untypically for me when i returned home at the beginning of March, I put off dealing with the matter for a month & have carried on using my old card.
Customer services told that my existing Visa card will stop working on 6th April (whew  ) After telling me I had nothing to lose & 650 points to gain, he said that if I really wanted to stick with my Visa card I could, & that a new card will have to be issued but with all the same terms & conditions. I told him I'd think about it for 24 hours.
I'll almost certainly stick with the re-issued VISA card & old conditions but want to do my research & make sure they don't pull another fast one. I totally agree that Mastercard is not as widely accepted. I use another card for travel, but had I been reliant on MC for my most recent trip I would've been up the proverbial creek.
Thanks all for your useful posts. I'll have a more careful read through before I ring Tesco again.0 -
I have a Tesco finest visa card. I received the ugrade offer on Wednesday. I rang up about the points to check if I got the same with the new card. They said "yes". No problem.
Today I received a letter saying that I had not paid my card and they were charging me £12 etc. I use this card solely for my work expenses and have it set to pay off the full balance every month by direct debit (no interest). I have been doing this for the last 5 years.
It turns out that they "upgraded" my card in January without telling me and so my direct debit was refused, as the credit card number was wrong. When I have looked more closely at my last statement it has a different card number on it! I have not received a new card and apparently it is not due to be dispatched for another 2 weeks. My current card is now blocked, even though I have paid the outstanding balance today over the phone. The lady I spoke to was very apologetic and has now sorted it all out.
My message is: check your latest statement to make sure they haven't "upgraded" you already, without telling you and without sending you the new card yet.
BEWARE!!!
Something similar happened to my wife after getting a replacement card after her old one went astray. Despite the message that the direct debit would be transferred, we noticed it had not been taken and rang (twice !), to be told that a delay was normal and not to worry.
When the next statement arrived, she had been charged a late payment fee and interest. When she rang, they apologised and reversed the fee and interest, but when the next statement arrived, more interest was charged.
If you get a replacement card with a new number, watch out!!!0 -
muddyboot - my tesco platinum changed to worldmastercard last May on the renewal date.
I too have held the card for ever and receive 1 point per £2 spent elswhere. As far as I can tell (and obviously they don't make it easy for you!!) my points are the same. I spend roughly the same as i always have on this card and the amount I receive in vouchers hasn't changed. I have to admit I've never phoned to check what I'm receiving as I feared they might say I shouldn't be on the 1 point per £2 and switch me to the new rubbish rate!!
What has irritated me over it all though is because you used to get x4 in deals it was effectively 2% cashback, now they've switched it to x3 it's nowhere near as good.
At x3 the headline rate would be 1.5%, which I think is quite reasonable. However, this is only valid on the full non-discounted price, and many of the items that I get typically can have a 50% discount. This brings the effective rate (for these items) down to 0.75%.
It is therefore still in my view reasonable, especially for items that are not normally heavily discounted.0 -
Seems to apply to all their cards:
*Sorry, points are not awarded on tobacco or tobacco related products, lottery, stamps, prescription medicines, infant formulae milk, Tesco Gift Cards, saving stamps, Esso fuel, in store concessions, Paypoint payments or for purchases of some Tesco Bank products. Other products may also be excluded from the scheme at the discretion of Tesco.
I believe this is a reference to those Esso stations that have a small Tesco attached. At these you would not get standard points in the same way as you would at a Tesco fuel station attached to a larger store.
The way I read it, the financial points will, however, apply in the normal way. Perhaps Tesco should clarify their wording.0 -

I rang yesterday to ask about what happens with the Olympics, and at first they did not understand, so I asked how long my old card would still be valid, and was told it would be cancelled some time next week.
When I suggested that was not helpful, particularly for those trying to get Olympic tickets, I was told I could cancel the new card and get a Visa card, but it would be a new card with a new number.
(I did not check whether it would have the same terms as my old card, or only those for a new one, so am glad to see your response on this. I too am thinking this over.)0 -
Sorry to bother you all but has anyone received their 650 bonus points for upgrading to a Tesco Finest Mastercard in their May 2011 statement?
When they wrote to me it stated that when they upgraded my account from Visa to Tesco Finest Mastercard I would get 1 point per £2 spent (as previously) + an additional 650 points per annum. I haven't seen the additional 650 points in my May 11 statement ?
I have contacted tesco credit card and they will contact a lady who deals with clubcard points but they don't know when they will be added ?
Thanking you all in advance for any replies0 -

This is precisely the reason why I rejected their 'offer' and chose to stick with my Visa card.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

Have found out from tesco credit card they are going to be posting
out vouchers for 650 points over the next few weeks. You need to take voucher instore to customer services and have the points added on. So we should hopefully all get them on our August statement0 -

So much for 'watch out for your 650 bonus points in your may statement'!!!!!!!!!
What a cheek expecting customers to do this. How many vouchers will get lost do you suppose either in the post or forgotten about. Not impressed Tesco.0
