Got my front lawn cut last night, brought some of the excess cuttings to work to get rid of. I called the council before and apparently the bin collectors won't take two garden bins. Which is a shame because I am up to my armpits in grass cuttings.

Do any of your neighbours have room in their green bins?

I only have the one neighbour, the other side of my is a beck where I had put excess but even that is overflowing now.

My one neight have a similar issue to me. I think I will simply have to make extra trips in the people carrier to drop the grass off at work. Plenty of open space here for it to mulch down. Just such a mess about just for grass cuttings.

  • Morning all,

Had to travel at the weekend to the MIL as she's not feeling very well. Not sure the three screaming kids helped matters though, it did mean I didn't get on top of my garden like I had wanted to.

Whilst we were there I saw the FIL is making good headway on making our driveway gate. Another month or so and it should be sorted I hope.

Have a cleaning coming round on Wednesday to price up 2 or 3 hours a week of deep cleaning for us.

Have been chatting with the OH about our OP's, quite pleased this year we are 2/3 of the way there with just over half the year gone. Excess funds this year MUST go towards new guttering which should cost about £2500. Its really rotting in some places.

And so you should be pleased...you have done fantastically on the OPs.

Your other priorities of the guttering and the ring fund must now take the upper hand for a while.

Is it a wooden or metal gate?

    Morning MCI,

The ring fund should be sorted in the next month or so, just to decide on either a custom made ring or one from a high street jewellers. I think I will go for the custom made one, it does require OH to go in for a fitting mind.

Also been thinking about the whole proposal and I've think I am going to go with writing out the message in tea lights and putting them outside late in the night and getting her to look outside, or at least something along these lines.

Yes the guttering will have to be my next target I think after the ring. Luckily I will be getting it via "mates rates" so won't get ripped off.

FIL works for some MOD weapons factory so its all metal and done in their workshop. Might not end up looking the prettiest as we did want wood, but its to serve a purpose and in a few years when we have a wall built we can get a wooden gate then. Still its free so I can't complain too much!

Nice proposal idea - I like it!

The metal gate might not be as bad as you think - as you said its free - there are some nice metallic hammerite paints that could jazz it up for now.

  • Morning all,

Have only jut got the internet at work back. We had a direct lightning strike.

Not a great deal has happened really past few days, still no sign of the front gate as the MIL is ill so the FIL has stopped its construction for now.

Had a small camping trip to the seaside with DD1 and DS which was very nice, couldn't have asked for nicer weather.

MSE side of things ill be able to report more next few days once I am paid but I expect 500-750 to go towards the ring fund.

  • Payday has been so thats £800 added to the ring fund.

Got the front lawn cut last night (it was getting rather long again), dumped some of the grass at work, really do need to find a better long term solution to the excess cuttings.

do you not compost!? just have to make sure when theres lots of grass you add lots of 'dry' things, like cardboard and sticks/twigs.

Yes I compost but my gardens a little too big, that combined with green thumb making the grass grow really fast means I have too many leftovers.

Did some hedge trimming last night, trying to get the garden to look neat at least.
