I thought that the ring should be a months' salary - thats what the advert said years ago (showing my age now) - 3 months is definately a bit steep.
I'm am sure that whatever you choose it will be wonderful.
DH proposed to me via a note in a box and he never actually said the words! But I wasn't expecting it at all, so was dumb struck.
I quite like the getting married at home thing (quite MSE too! no venue charge!) - if you've got the space it will be fab - and as far as the mess - you hire people to come and clear that up for you!

MCI
Getting married at home will certainly be easier for the kids. They have the play room for during the day and will be tucked up in their own beds rather than having to stay up too late.
We are lucky and do have the space in the back and only have two neighbours both who we get on with great so they wouldn't mind.
She has pretty much already told me what ring she wants so I can't go too far wrong. (I hope)

wow congratulations!! Due to hostilities in DH family we got married abroad (we invited them but knew they wouldnt pay!!) great for kids as they got a holiday and we got a honeymoon built in. Cost about £8k but that was for the 6 adults and 2 kids that came (we offered to pay for the people that came but they wouldnt allow it!), got a beautiful beach style wedding dress and linen suits for the guys from monsoon (sale of course!) then had a party when we got back which cost about £1000, so all in for us was about £5k.
Re. engagement ring look in local jewlers rather than chains and barter, when i got my wedding ring i saw one i liked that was £950, told them my budget was £800 they knocked it down, also threw in a clean and re-plate of my 6 year old (yes thats 6 years old!!) engagement ring as it looked a bit tired next to the new one0 -
Hi Brodie,
A few of our freinds have suggested independant jewelers so yes I think thats certainly something I need to look into.
I think the thing we will forward to most about the honeymoon is the fact the kids won't be there haha. Well at least I know I will be! Still I guess it will be a good couple of years until we actually get married so they might not be so bad by then.
OH is however still very keen on a 4th LO so that should at least mean we won't have a wedding too soon, so I/we have time to plan it all out.
Beach wedding does sound very nice though!

Yes i'll be there for that :rotfl:
Went at the weekend with the OH to look at rings to get an idea of the syle she likes.
Decided on platinum and a central diamond without claws that has other little diamons down the side of the ring.
There are some very lovely ones and the OH has now "left it to me to decide". Problem is i am torn between two, one being just in budget and the other being a fair amount over budget.
I am lucky in the sense that I know my income will rise considerably in the coming years and the niggling thought is I don't want to look back and think to myself I should have pushed the boat out a bit for her.
Decisions decisions.

platinum is a good choice! Thats what I had...but of course you do know you will have to buy platinum wedding rings too to match lol!!!(though DH had paladium which is platinum's tougher cousin and cheaper to boot!)
Glad you are close to choosing a ring - its really exciting!

Added a bit more to the ring fund (what would have been an OP).
Ring find is now at £2190.00.
This is basically the style she likes
I hadn't thought of that MCI, platinum eternity ring too I suppose. Darn haha.
Other news but not very MCI sadly is we are taking a cleaner on, the OH is struggling with three kids. Only a couple hours a week for now. So about £12-£14.

Although I see your point about pushing the boat out, at the end of the day it's just a ring and doesn't really mean anything. It's being a good husband that counts, and you can't put a price on that - I would go for the cheaper one and put the rest of the money towards the wedding.0

Yeah I really am torn between the two, I know having the ring made from Platinum compared to White Gold adds £500 to the cost.
Regarding the wedding costs I haven't even looked at that yet in any depth.
Paid my £300 car bill yesterday and our food bill seems to have skyrocketed of late. I have been toying with the idea of going to Aldi/lidl for the tins and cupboard items and simply buying a years worth (we don't live close to any of them) and then we would only have to get fresh items.
It is possible in my opinion to almost completely stop going to the supermarket as I have a nice local butchers (have to compare prices hopefully they aren't too much more) and also a local farm shop for fruit and veg.
