    Thanks MCI,

Other news is i've just about finally been overwhelmed by the pressure to get engaged so i'm going to have to save up and get a ring so my OP's will either be reduced or stopped until I have the cash.

Problem after that is I'll have to save up for the big day then

    Wow...congratulations.

How much you need to save will depend greatly on what kind of wedding you want.

When you have purchased 'the ring' - get saving for the big day, but check out how much potential venues are so you have an idea of how much its going to cost. We had a wonderful day for approx £9.5k - 50 people ceremony and meal; 100 people for evening (all in the same place) and all the trimmings. Average wedding is £20k now, but you can have just as nice day for less without compromising on what you want - get your MSE head on.

Sorry if I'm telling you things you already know...

Congratulations again and best of luck to you both.

sorry couldn't help it such a romantic :T:T:T:T:T

    DTxx

I'll be honest romance has never been my strong point, plus I can't say I am really a big believer in the whole marriage thing but it'll make her happy so thats the main thing.

Obviously when I do pop the question i'll sugar coat it somewhat :)

I know mate, I cracked. It took her six/seven years but she won the war of attrition haha.

She'll still have to wait til the end of the year. It will take me that long to come up with a half decent plan.

I know very little about it in all honesty, I know I was floored when she told me the price of wedding dresses. Something thats only worn once.... but i'll behave and won't have a MSE head I suppose it is only onces in a lifetime. OH wants to get married at our house in the garden but im not convinced by the idea. It would be easier with the kids but I can imagine the mess afterwards!

Thanks though guys, I'll let you know when I think of a romantic way to pop the question (pops off to google)

I know I know, this romance thing comes quite naturally to me :rotfl:

MSE front had a few spends of later, DS school uniform needs buying for this coming Sept, need to pay for my car windows that are being fixed and we had a rather large supermarket shop after our hols.

Its just spend spend spend at the minute :(

  • Nice Ring Fund Target!

I had a look online and they say you should spend three months wages on it. I thought that seems a bit steep and I wouldn't be suprised if those websites were paid for by Jewelers. So I thought £2,500 was a nice figure without it going overboard.

She has drumed into me enough now to know pretty much what she wants. A kissing diamond that doesn't stick out too much so she doens't catch it.

For the fund i'd use £1,000 in the bank that I normally use as backup and my next OP steps. Should be £500 end of this month and hopefully £1000 next month and then i'll be sorted.

I had better get my thinking cap on for how to do it though.

    Congratulations!

I could never bring myself to spend that much on a ring and if my gf expected me to then I would be with the wrong person. :rotfl:

My friend did their entire wedding for £3k. They got married in the registry office, hired the local village hall and decorated it all up really nice. Dress was the most expensive thing and they both looked amazing.

They had family do the food and cakes, friends do the disco and music and another be the photographer for the day.

It was honestly one of the best weddings I have ever been to. Nothing too fancy, nice and informal.

I just don't see the point is spending £20k on a wedding. I wonder if that figure will drop as DIY weddings seem all the rage at the moment.

I know people who have hired their wedding dress even or even got them from a Charity Shop - often for the vintage type look thats in fashion.

I also know someone who got married in their garden. They hired a marquee, had food prepared by a local company, strung up fairy lights everywhere and had a small disco.

Obviously you need good neighbours as well but it was a good night despite the rain.

I think what I prefer about the smaller weddings is that personal feeling. You get to feel like the bride and groom has made every decision to make it their special day rather than just relying on some big hotel to do it for them.

  • Yes I'll admit the overall cost can make me shudder but I am pretty tight most of the time with her so the way I am going to approach it is since its a once in a lifetime thing I'll let her have her dream and back her with what she wants. End of the day its only money and making her happy should be the priority.

If it was left just up to me I could imagine how low the bill (partly because I wouldn't realise half the things would be needed).
