I would rather pay out than do this sort of job yourself. Ours took weeks, and that was with a guy who knew how, but worked slowly. Imagine how long it would take round work, and then how many weeks you would have to feed yourselves with no kitchen to go at.

It is not desirable I tell you.

The more people I speak to the more than keep saying exactly that. I guess I might be being a bit too frugle in this instance.

Overall the kitchen and the windows will mean I am likely to fall short of my annual target I bet unless I really pull my socks up :(.

Still least its a job that I don't need to do next year.

    Balance it out.

    You'll save money on takeaways.

Your DW will not want to have you taking that long as it will mean less help with the kids, and harder for her to cook and wash up.

Also, if you don't really know what you are doing, you might get it a bit wrong and not quite how it should be.

(Although I know you are quite handy, it is not the best job for a DIYer)

Also, when you have young kids, we found it was quite dangerous cooking in the dining room/living room, eg. I had trouble because the kettle could only go on the floor, and the slow cooker got unplugged a couple of times by DS2 who was only 2.5 at the time. Therefore no dinner.

    Hi Michelle,

Yes you are right (as usuaul :)) i won't take the chance to fit it myself.

We have wickes and wrne coming out to measure up and quote this weekend, although the insurance messed up and didn't send any dehumidifiers. the guys came to check the floor and ripped up all the kitchen floor to show there had previoously been aspestos tiles . But thankfully they had been removed some years before.

The bad news is the dehumidifiers have to be on 24hours a day for 6 weeks!!!!

The noise is almost as bad as the 3 LO's crying lol

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Yeah need to call them today and accept their offer.

Have decided to get the kitchen from Wren. They had a new showroom near us and the quality of the units were superior to B&Q's.

Plus in my mind since they only do kitchens and bathrooms they should be better than the jack of all trades B&Q.

Still going to be £5k give or take worse off as a result.... that takes my overall yearly spend including windows and overpayments to £27k

Sorry to hear about the leak. We also had a leak a few years ago and got the insurance to pay for it, it doean't really seemed to have affected our premiums - we just shop around and its always around the same price. Good luck with your plans!

please do not buy from Wren! you only need to search this forum for complaint after complaint about their service. Their product by all accounts is fine, but after service and unwillingness to help is meant to be dire. Its just MFI with same MFI staff, managers, directors and 'fake sales' and there was a reason they went bust.
Look at Magnet, Howdens or Benchmark for a better kitchen and probably cheaper as well.

also see people commenting on these threads who have only ever commented saying how great Wren are... meat based product anyone.

I can highly recommend the quality of the Howdens cabinets, and they were very willing to swap a cabinet when we changed our mind part way through. I didn't use them to fit though.

We had a horrendous experience with MFI just before they went bust with a fitted wardrobe that in my mind would reach the ceiling, but they left a couple of inch gap that my husband ended up filling, and the chest of drawers top was a long piece that kept getting damaged so I was 8 months pregnant and waiting for workmen all the time who would not show up and were reluctant to help. I guess it would depend on the fitter you got there.

Well the OH has now changed her mind and prefers the Wickes worktops..... nothing sorted with the insurance yet, they missed some bits off their original offer so awaiting a revised one.

All the quotes are coming in around £7k.

Small bit of goods news is the new wages have come through so thats another 1K per month until Christmas.

Regarding DD2 we had her up to the hospital again the other night. She stopped breathing and set the apnea monitor off.
They ran tests and she was happily cooing away and they simply don't know whats up.
So its off to Nottingham for a 24hr EEG and an MRI scan, although it would appear they are wanting to check for cerebal palsy.
