The LO's are under three so don't full understand it. DS still thinks grandad simply moved house when he actually died earlier lol.

Don't ever tell them that you are thinking about moving house !
I can't be bothered updating this anymore

    haha! :rotfl:
Yeah i better make a note of that, could take some explaining. Several times we have thought "why did i say that", seems at times like DS remembers everything we tell him.

My two boys still randomly tell people that we used to have a cat called fred who died. Usually prompted if they see a cat. This is nearly 6 months after, so who knows how long these things stick in their little heads.

At 3 they don't realise much, but my eldest was very upset at 4 as he knew a bit more about it.

Was just catching up, and your overpayment total for the first half of the year is looking absolutely fabulous. May the 2nd half be just as productive.

Odd comments are the best, they brighten any thread up

I can do odd comments, very odd comments, or just the odd comment, whichever you need ;)

So sorry to hear that LP. :(

I'm hoping I can start a diary soon to become MF!! Just having some home improvements done with additional borrowing but hope to start taking chunks out of it from next year......
    Hi twiddy,

Thanks for the comment, please feel free to comment away on here :)

You can make a MF thread and list all the improvements you are making first. Its effectively one great big pot anyway really. Its not exactly "wasted money".

Hi Twiddy and welcome to MFW.

I second what LP says. You can start diary here on MFW while you are saving for your improvements and paying for them. (But then I would say that, wouldn't I? Because it's what I'm doing myself! ;)) Anyway, do tell us a bit about yourself, your home improvements, your mortgage, your MFW dreams... whatever you'd like to put, really. :)

Haha kids hey, they can be so funny at times with how random they can be and yet also at times be so in tune.

We still have two cats for them to chase roudn the garden so I doubt they will notice too much.

lets hope the 2nd half will be *fingers crossed*

Half the battle is the mindset, and setting yourstall will prepare you Twiddy for when you take the first MF step. So like Lois says spill the beans.

Side note: Had yet more bad news today, well not bad more of a setback. Currently been packing ready for a weekend camping trip and the OH notices the kitchen laminate appears to be swelling. I squeeze the join to find water.....

Empty the kitchen cupboards, strip the boards out and see the dishwasher emptying and suddenly gush it all flows back up the pipe and out onto the kitcehn wall and under the floor. Instantly swich the dishwasher off and wonder how long its been going on for. Have pulled kickboards off and pulled up alot of laminate and the smell..... eugh! Its horrid and the amount of water is unreal, i can't believe we had no idea before now.

Problem is we are away until sunday so I am going to have to let it "air" aka "stink the house out" until I get back. But chances are its going to mean a new floor and new kitchen units as the frames are shot. Question is do I do it on insurance? For leaks its £400 excess and lose the no claims bonus.

We had this with our toilet, think it might have been leaking for 3 years. Only noticed when it started coming through kitchen ceiling.

My dad pulled up the wooden floorboards in the offending bathroom, completely rotted away with the amount of water. We also had the insurance conundrum, fortunately for us, my dad replaced the toilet, wooden floorboards, bathroom flooring (it was only cheap laminate) while we decide how we want to do it properly IYSWIM.

It is going to cost £332 to have the ceiling patched and re skimmed, we are paying for it. Thought going through the insurance would be too much hassle. Although have been waiting a year to have the ceiling re skimmed (just never get round to it.) Plasterers are hard to come by too.

When my car was bashed in a supermarket carpark, don't know who did it they did it and ran, we also paid the £300 for the repair instead of the £500 excess, at 26 I'm only just getting reasonable car insurance prices without claims on there.
    OPs so far £42,139

  • Hi Sarah,

thanks for that, I think i will call them tomorrow to find the lay of the land. Might turn out to be an ideal time to re-do the kitchen and have some more modern cupboards and bits.

Just got back from a short camping trip and have this afternoon done the following:

    - fixed the kitchen leak (turns out the pipe was blocked and the dishwasher was leaking in two place, but is water tight now)
    - felted my newly build wood store (looks very nice, really happy with the job i've done)

    Jobs i need to do
    - Paint utility, kitchen and breakfast room ceilings.
    - call insurance
    - tidy my garage

  • Wasn't on at all last week as it was a "holiday". I say that because it had originally been booked for me to decorate the kitchen and breakfast room.
But as i touched upon I found a leak.

We spoke with the insurance and they came round and valued the damage at £1700 because they only plan on building new carcasses and not replacing the new doors etc. We then got B&Q to come out and price up a new kitchen, it started at £7,500 but with my trade account its effectively £6000 or £3000 if i fit it myself. Now I haven't done a kitchen before and everybody I have spoken to says they are a hassle and to pay somebody else to do it, but its £3000 i really don't fancy spending. I can get the cash if I need to, but then if i do try it myself it might be a step too far....

Trying to get the insurance to up their offer as some items are laughable the prices they have suggested. Flooring for £15per sq mtr!

Going to get wickes and a few others out to measure up and will end up doing a dutch auction to get price down.
Problem is its a 19piece kitchen unit :(

Surely nothing else can go wrong.
