MSE News: Wheel clamping ban moves closer

  • The owners of the place I leave my car won't be able to tow it, immoblise it, or block it in, and as the council will know that it hadn't been abandoned, they won't have the authority to remove it either.

Then again, why use a car park? I could just as easily pick the driveway for a house near the airport, and providing I wasn't blocking the owners car, they couldn't remove mine.
Park on my drive if you wish, it would not be there within an hour of you going. Same thing would apply to a works car park, fork lifts are a wonderful thing.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

But then you would be the one breaking the law and not me, and you might be the one who ends up with a criminal record.

As someone stated yesterday, it's fine changing the law and making something such as clamping or removing a vehicle illegal, but how about thinking of what the consequences of the changes will be.

Just for the record, I wouldn't consider doing what I stated, but I'm sure that it will be happening a lot more once the law changes.

The clamping ban has been in force in Scotland for nearly twenty years. I haven't heard of any cases of cars parking on driveways or even much unauthorised parking on other private land. Don't forget that most people are decent minded and won't park where they are not supposed to.

At least this will save me money on my next overseas holiday.
Why bother spending £50 per week for airport car parking when all I will have to do is to leave my vehicle in the car park of a company located near the airport, and leave a note inside the windscreen informing the local council that the car hasn't been dumped or abandoned, simply parked for a week.

The owners of the place I leave my car won't be able to tow it, immoblise it, or block it in, and as the council will know that it hadn't been abandoned, they won't have the authority to remove it either.

Yes, the owners of the property could probably apply for a court order allowing my car to be removed, but how long would this take?

To be fair there's nothing stopping you doing that now - there's plenty of company car parks without clampers and strangely it doesn't happen.

That said, I work next to Gatwick and 75% of the local businesses have barriers.
All aboard the Gus Bus !

Is there no one from Scotland to tell us how it is working there now?

  • I missed that! Did he mention suing the Government?

I don't think he did, but he was that useless, he was getting a slapping from Susanna Reid.

Shame it's not available on the BBC i-player.

Keep hearing of this mass parking on other peoples property, but haven't heard anything about major problems in Scotland. It would be good to see a percentage of clamps that were actually fitted by entrapment. As opposed to those fitted for parking in a companies car park!

it's completely fine, plenty of ticketers but we all know what to do about that.

you occasionally see clamped cars but it's obvious it's the local authorities/police doing it for car tax evasion etc.

people up here usually get barriers put in when they want to deter rogue motorists. looks like some folks down south could take a leaf out of our book!
