do you use it on hot meat too? I was only thinking of sandwich meat but if I can use it on a roast as well then I might get leftovers more!

yes! of course you can use on hot meat! I dont mean straight out of the oven, but by the time the joint has rested, its cooled enough to handle and will still slice reasonably well - you will get more crumbly bits than you do with cold meat though!

It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!
  • We bought one of the Argos slicers, to replace our worn out one. We love a joint of gammon sliced thinly, saves so much waste. Also slow cooked brisket, sliced when cold is wonderful for buffets etc. We used the slicer to slice the cold goose breast at Christmas, lovely.

I bought one last year and its paid for itself in no time at all. Now that tesco's cold meat it approx £4 for about 6-8 slices when its on offer it is well worth buying roasts and slicing them for sandwiches. Hubby has a lunchbox everyday and I need four slices of cold meat, so sandwiches were becoming expensive, with having the slicer it has reduced the cost by at least half. To make matters worse when it comes to gadgets I bought a vaccuum packer and vacuum pack the cold meat once its sliced and it does for about 7-8 days in the fridge or if great for freezing it and just taking out what you need.

I have been looking into getting one of these for a few weeks now with the idea of cutting down on buying cold meat for sandwiches. Not sure which one is best so would be grateful for any advice!

The OP mentioned one being on offer in argos, was it this one?

    Thanks! :-)
  • Thanks OP - I have just reserved the last one in my store, bargain at £25.

Might have to keep it hidden from DH until after pay day though ;)

Thats the one. Mine was the last in store too - my hubby not convinced but its come out of the house keeping budget as I've done well on the grocery shopping this month

Got a whole salami on my ocado delivery this evening so will do that too - 83p per 100g against 1.50 for ready sliced.

i think i could be easily tempted by this gadget. my slices of meat vary so much. i've got a nice electric knife and sometimes i can slice great thin slice's, other times the slices are rather rustic, lol.

is the only mentioned in the thread easy to clean ? and take apart from cleaning? i see if folds up which is great as i would want to store it away when not in use.

The blade and guard come off to clean (I put in dw) and the rest got a good wipe down. There are a couple of little crevices that need a good go at to make sure any bits are out but not too bad
