Domestic Food/Meat Slicers - any good?

If you can get hold of one a Lakeland adjust-a-slice is the best thing I've found for cutting bread. Its a serated knife with an adjustable guide on the side which helps you cut straight and even slices of bread. Lakeland discontinued them last year just after I bought mine but you may find one at a car boot sale or even ebay.
If you search for Dux Knife it will bring up a couple of pictures but the price on the sites I looked at was quite high (>£20). I paid £2.99 for mine so there msut be somewhere out there that sells them cheaper surely.
Edited to add: a quick search for adjustable bread knife on the old Bay of E brings up just the thing! (And 'no' it isn't me selling it!)0 -
Hi weegie,
There's an earlier thread on slicers that may help so I've added your post to it.
This thread may help too: Best way to slice bread

I keep forgetting to mention this - has anyone got one?
Mine's fab, I swear by it ( quite a lot when trying to assemble it lol!)
It's like this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4228211/Trail/searchtext%3EFOOD+SLICER.htm
I use it to cut my Sunday meat, a it really makes it go a long way.
I bought a piece of leg of pork - boned - for £3.89.
So far it's done Sunday lunch (4 of us) Monday lunch for work, Monday dinner (2 of us) with baby spuds and froz veg. There's probably at least another 2 days worth of sarnies there for me. So it's done at least 10 servings. If I'd sliced it with the meat knife there's no way I'd have got that many portions out of it./
Like all my labour/time saving devices, like the slow cooker/breadmaker etc, it has to pay for itself. and this one really earns it's keep. Had it for about a year and it still runs really well.
Wonder if I could slice my bread with it, I've never tried?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Hi! I have the kenwood one too, and i originally bought it to slice bread as I'm hopeless slicing with a bread knife! I then tried cooked bacon joints - and the result was they stretched far further than hand-sliced - more sandwiches for lunch than before. Results look better too.Resolution:

We have the one from LIDL.
Her indoors uses it for the bread from the bread maker.
A big improvement on the bread knife.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Hi, I have this one from Argos and I too think that it is fab. I cannot slice bread too save my life but since I bought this I have been able to make my own bread and slice it. I alos use it to slice meat, it buy a piece of gammon and then once cooked and cooled, slice it up for sandwiches. It works out much cheaper than buying ham.Debt Oct 2006 £42,215.21 at highest. Make sure the breads cooled before you slice when it comes to bread but other than that should be fine, I have a Kenwood one and use it for bread. One day I might be more organised...........
