Ive got one! it comes out when i am serving beef. about once every six months! what comes out every week is my electric knife....(my OH gave me one as christmas present and nearly got his b*** cut off) but have to admit it has served me (and everyone else)well. doesnt take up much room either and i can cut really thin slices with practice. i think if you are doing catering a slicer is brilliant as you can get so much more out of joint but for family - would say electric knife.0

maybe try Freecycle first, I got one from ours and I must admit that I dont use it that much, I dont find it slices much better than asharp knife when meat is hot0

Sorry guys I completely forgot I posted this thread!!!
Thankfully my mum has a dishwasher so she can have the pleasure of cleaning it
I might post a Wanted ad on Freecycle but knowing my luck I'll have no joy. Failing that Lakeland it is......what torture having to go shopping thereI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

It works pretty well on meat and bread. Sometimes it snags a bit on the edge of really fresh bread or meat with a rind on. It is quite handy for making joint stretch further, but cleaning it is a bit faffy.Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -

I also have the kenwood from lakeland and i love it
i slice all meat joints on it and it makes them go much further also makes it nicer for sandwiches during the week.a joint of gammon which would have done us 5 a meal and sandwiches the next day now will slice up for sandwiches and meals for at least 4-5 days.when your life is a mess light one more cigarette its so logical!!

Argos have their slicers on offer again so I finally got one as there was some cash left in the pot at the end of the month.
I've just sliced my huge whoopsied ham joint so it lasts ds more than 3 sarnies and I'll roast a piece of topside I have the the freezer and do that too.
Can I use it on hm bread?People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

yes, you certainly can use it on bread! but, I really find my slicer a godsend on the rare occasion I have unexpected guests (or family just turn up) for sunday lunch! you can get so many more slices than hand slicing, and the portion sizes seem to look much more if you have three or four thin slices, rather than just one thick one!0

Watch out - it's addictive!! I sliced everything I could think of when I got mine, apples, onions, potatoes. Now that the novelty has worn off I just slice meat and bread (although I still try and see how thin I can get the slices). My hm bread doesn't slice great in it but I think if I lifted it up a bit off the base it would be fine, it's just the last wee bit doesn't seem to cut off.
Left over beef sliced thinly then eaten the next day warmed in gravy is delicious."A strong man stands up for himself, a stronger man stands up for others" Barnyard the children's film.
