JD - where will you buy your hamjoints from? DH is very keen for me to cook/slice/freeze ours rather than buy sliced packs from the supermarket, as he's had ham or salami sandwiches every working day for the past decade. I can see gammon and bacon joints online but not ham.0

I bought one similar to this about 4 years ago on recommendation from my mum. I wouldn't be without it, especially at xmas, it's amazing how far you can make a small joint stretch!
I got a similar one from a carboot (along with the rest of my kitchen:o ) - I remember my mum having one that was used regularly - great for joints of meat or bread etcI THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -
I have the Kenwood one - bought about 8 years ago when I bought my breadmaker. I'd thoroughly recommend it! We buy gammon joints from Tesco to cook and slice for packed lunches, much cheaper than the ready prepared slices.Resolution:

I got a Kenwood one of ebay for about £10 last year, great but I do hate cleaning it...One day I might be more organised...........

Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
Siemans do a fantastic slicer, a bit more expensive than some of the others. But this has a solid aluminium base. Don't be misled by the flimsy fold away ones. We use ours every day to slice homemade bread plus home cooked meats. They really are one of the most important frugal kitchen gadgets to have. The parts are quite cheap to replace and are ready available on their website. They are not that readily available in the UK we bought ours of Ebay Germany. A bargain at £20.0

I bought mine in Lidl and find it great. I use it for hm bread and ham slicing and also cheese which I buy in huge blocks. As far as I know a cooked gammon is a ham.Penny xxx

Hello Jammy Dodger,
I received a 6.5L slow cooker for Christmas, so cooked a large gammon ham in it, it came out wonderful but then I wanted to slice it, so on the Sunday morning went to Argos and bought the one there 45 quid, got home, started to slice with it and it blew up! Took it back straight away and on the Monday I bought a Magimix Le Truncheur 190, 90 quit in the sale! But it is perfect for the job, sliced all the ham up and I put it in bags in the freezer. Each bag has about 4 quid of "deli" ham in it and I got 11 bags from it. The ham cost me 25 quid from my local farm so it will take me a while to get the slicer money back, but the ham should last me about 3 months. I got my slicer from an independent, Williams & Griffiths, they are expensive so you might get it cheaper. The Argos one just couldn't do the job, ok for bread and cheese I guess, but not joints of meat. Hope this helps. SG0 -
Hi all,
After following your fantastic reccommendations for the Panasonic Breadmaker, We are now enjoying HM bread and I am sure we are quickly making back the cost of the machine outlay as the loaves work out at about 30p per loaf
I am abit rubbish at slicing the bread though as I am sure I could get a few more slices out of my loaf if I could just get them thinner.
I have seen the Kenwood SL250 (£29.97) on Amazon and the reviews are mostly pretty good for bread slicing.
Does anyone have one or if not do you have something similar you could reccommend?
Thanks all0 -
Hi StressedSteph,
I have this slicer. I bought it to replace my old kenwood one and I find it much better....homemade bread used to jam in the kenwood. I did buy this one first and although it looked good it just couldn't slice bread so I returned it. The new one is great and I use it to slice bread, meat and cheese. I think it has probably paid for itself because I can get so many more slices per loaf than I used to with a knife. They are a pain to clean though.
There was a thread on slicers yesterday that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep all the replies together.
