I recently had to replace my Kenwood slicer due to accidently breaking it, I was very lucky and found a new one on ebay for 12.00 plus 6 postage. A real bargain. I really would be lost without one as due to arthritis I have difficulty holding a knife.Slimming World at target0

I got one of the white Cookworks slicers when they were on offer last year and was pleased with it. But i broke it.
I only used it to slice bread and one day i hadn't realised the paddle from the Panny was stuck in the loaf ........ it doesn't slice metal. A little plastic cog snapped off so it's stuck in a cupboard waiting to see can i fix it.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Hi Alibobsy,
I've added your thread to the existing one on food slicers where you'll find lots of recommendations and advice.

Thank you to the person who pointed out the lidl slicer. I picked one up for dh who has always wanted one, and already had a cover for one from an italian supermarket.
It is the current toy of choice, he has sliced up a roasted bacon joint with it to day and asked if we can have something else slicable when he next home on friday......
I can already see how much easier it will be to freeze left over cooked meat.0 -
Can anyone please recommend a good reasonably-priced meat slicer?
I love to cook a joint then freeze the leftovers (often a lot as there is just me). I can use my usual hackings for curries etc but would like to be able to freeze slices too.
Also is there a good mincer on the market? My mother had a hand operated one that clamped onto the counter but a part of it got lost over the years.Aiming to get healthy in 2014.0 -
You can get old fashioned metal mincers at boot sales and charity shops - you may though find that you don't have a piece of work surface to use it on - we found that modern work surfaces were too thick so we use ours in the shed on OH's workbench! I wouldn't be tempted by the modern plastic versions that suction onto work surfaces, we took ours back as it didn't stick and we found it wasn't robust.
I've got an old meat slicer I've had for 20 years (God I feel old!), I think it's a tefal one and it works well - I don't use it that often but it does what it says on the tin and is straightforward to clean.Piglet

I bought the basic one from Argos which i was pleased with but only used it for cutting HM bread, It worked great until one day i hadn't realised the paddle from the Panny was still inside the loaf........ it's not strong enough to slice steel and all the plastic cogs broke off.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

That was really bad luck Sailor Sam. Maybe you'll come across one at a car boot sale this spring. Was the paddle ok?Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

We bought this one and it's done us well. The only issue is that the finish appears to have 'run' a bit (ie. it looks like it has water marks) after the first use. Aside from that, it's been flawless.
