I bought the cook works one fron Argos about five years ago, and it does a really good job, I think it was about £25, but given how much further a roast goes when using the meat slicer it does pay for itself in the long run. It has variable thickness which is changed quite easily by turning a cog, cleaning is quite straightforward too, dismantles to make the job much easier. Definately recommend :-)

I have the Argos one too. Hardly use it, I should though!
I find it to much of a hassle getting it out, washing it up and boxing it back up.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)
  • I have the Kenwood one, it cost about £25, it works fine & makes a joint go much further. I buy a piece of gammon, when sliced it make a weeks worth of sandwiches, much cheaper than buying packet ham.

Me too has the cookworks one and would recommend it, it certainly makes the meat go further!

That was really bad luck Sailor Sam. Maybe you'll come across one at a car boot sale this spring. Was the paddle ok?

Yes the paddle was a bit scratched but luckily enough didn't break.
I've gone back to using the electric knife, not as good as the slicer and much slower. You'd probably laugh if you saw me, but i have to make a cut one side of the loaf, turn it around then do another cut, turn again until i have 4 straight cuts then join them up. Otherwise the slices are like doorsteps.

I have a Kenwood Slicer, I am fairly sure I bought it from Argos about 15 years ago - It comes out at Christmas and when having a large family dinner. Yes, it is a faff to unbox, put together, then washing up and re-boxing - BUT, it is a godsend if your beef turns out tough (thinner slices disguises that) and for slicing meats (or anything) for the freezer its great! your meat does go further and you can get much thinner slices than even with an electric knife.
  • I've checked mine and it's a Kenwood not a Tefal!

As the title says really. After getting some fab help on here on making bread, I now make my own all the time, but I am a bit !!!! at slicing it up. Anyone got a foolproof method, or got a decent gadjet that will slice well?
