Do you wear your clothes more than once before wash?

When I was a nun our habits and 'cottes' (underskirts) were washed monthly! At first I was absolutely horrified by this but soon got used to it. Of course knickers were clean every day, didn't wear socks or tights, and the t-shirt/jumper worn under the habit would go in the wash as and when it needed it - as I was in the kitchen most days I got smellier than most as we took our habits off, so usually 2 days in summer, 3 or 4 in winter. When it was really hot we could also put our cottes through every 2 weeks.
So now I am far less bothered by how often my clothes are washed than I used to be. My workout clothes are washed after one wear in summer, but have sometimes lasted a couple through the winter, particularly the 3 or 4 layers that don't touch the skin. Jeans can last a couple of weeks if they don't get dirty, as can cardies, etc. I have 2 big fluffy jumpers that are an absolute nightmare to wash, so they get aired unless they are filthy!0 -
Working - change the undies and put out for the wash every day; shirts - wear one Mon, Tues Weds; change for a fresh one Thurs Fri; skirts/suits/trousers - can go all week if I can keep 'em clean! I've more things to do at a weekend than wash, dry and iron endless stuff.
Change when I get home, hang them up, and let them have a bit of air through them, and get changed into 'home clothes' - comfy, slobby, 'get it dirty if you want, change it when it's dirty' stuff.
Weekends - smart stuff to go out in; comfy stuff at home. If it's mucky, it goes in the wash, if it's not it gets reworn the next day and then in the wash.
Finally, and best of all - the holllliiiiiiidaaaaaaaaays
We spend a month camping in France. There's a launderette in the village, but it's mediocre, and I'll be beggared if I'm hand-washing for the duration, so the programme is this:
Take all the pants, socks, t-shirts and shorts you own.
Wear them, and about halfway through the holiday, wash what you've run out of.
Luxury is a clean t-shirt and shorts. I should add at this point we spend a lot of the holiday walking about two miles each way to get to a fabulous, remote beach. Its a tough walk through the woods, so socks really don't last more than a day; a new, fresh pair of socks becomes a real luxury about two weeks in, as hand-washing just won't get through the grime.
However, the up-side of this is, is that the beach is nudist. So, once there, clothes-washing obligations drop off dramatically - as do the clothes. Let's just safely say that one bikini can lat 4 weeks without a wash, no bother at all.:oReason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -
The acid test with underwear/socks is to throw them at the wall, if they stick they need washing, if not theyre good for another day.0

If I am likely to pull down my pants or expose them I will have them fresh no matter what!
Formal occasions warrant fresh clothes otherwise the sniff test or a quick spray of deodorant/scent for an extra days's wear!
It is weird how you can always smell other peoples fabric conditioner on their clothes but never your own?0 -
I wear most my clothes more than once before washing them, i can go upto seven wears before having to wash them.0

We did a tour of the submarine down in Chatham docks, the submariner giving us the tour took great delight in letting us know how three pairs of Ys would last for a 3 month trip...
1st week on the right way
2nd week on back to front
3rd week on inside out facing forward
4th week on inside out and back to front
They only had a tiny box to store all their stuff in, and he reckoned once they were all smelly no one really noticed. They got to wash once a week, with one sinkful of water.

I am amazed at the number of people who only wear something once before washing it. Not very MSE, and v. bad for the environment. I can understand why you'd change a t-shirt if you'd had an active day, but why would you throw a pair of trousers into the wash when you'd only worn them once?0

Underwear is daily, bra's sometimes 2/3 days (i have limited maternity ones in my size)
Tights/leggings again i have 2 maternity pairs and alternate then wash them at the weekend
Jeans can be anything up to a week unless its raining which could mean half an hour as they soak up mud and dirt.
Tops.... 2 days max0 -
