Everything is only worn once [apart from coats and housecoats]. This is the same rule for my children as well.

I wash things when they are dirty or put of shape - can be 2 or more times. Clean nics and socks daily thoug!

If it's against the skin (e.g. t-shirt or shirt) then two days. Trousers/skirts/jumpers/cardies will last a week unless I spill something on it. Undies, usually daily unless I'm feeling particularly lazy.

I can't believe how much washing everyone does!

Knickers and socks are one-wear only, but everything else I wear until it's marked from a spillage or something.

I can't remember the last time I washed any of my jeans! This is mostly down to the fact that I have far too many pairs to choose from so rarely wear the same ones regularly and so they all just go back in the drawer until they start to lose their shape and only then will then be washed.

Pyjamas I will wear for a few days before washing.

Work wear (office job) will be worn perhaps four times before washing, although not on consecutive days.

Even with this minimal washing, my partner and I still do perhaps four loads of washing a week. Have NO idea how we manage it!

Jodie, Im with you. I wear things until they don't smell so good. I sweat very little and work in an office so some things last for ages--really!

I think society has got a little hygiene obsessed of late. I was born in '67, and in the 70's we never wore clothes only once before washing them (not round my way anyway)--This pattern of behaviour only seemed to talke hold inthe 80's, when people had radiators/tumble dryers/automatic washing machines.

Im fairly sure I dont smell...?
  • yeah i was born in the 60s and i would have got a clip round the ear putting clothes in the laundry everyday, mum only had a twin tub and i cant honestly remember how she got stuff dry in the winter, i think it was put in front of the fire,
similarly i have trouble getting clothes dry in the winter so apart from knickers i wear all other stuff until its stained or stinky,
  • 'Clean' (ie without stains on them) tops get two wears before washing. Jeans, skirts and trousers get a bit longer, maybe five wears (no idea why though!). Dresses are a compromise at three wears. Knickers, tights and socks get one wear before going in the wash, and pyjamas get worn for a week.

Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")
Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")

I am glad i am not the only one. I tend to rotate clothes over a 2-3 weeks period so do not wear anything twice in a row, and of course change underwear regularly. Just need to sort out the clothes pile problem and it be all good. x

I would add that I think the economic and evironmental cost of the "wear it once, wash it immediately" brigade is unsustainable.
