Ohh skinchick i am so sorry, you are right, i have not lost a baby so i can not even imagine how it feels. We have told my parents ( they live abroad) and Oh;s parents we are expecting but told them to keep it a secret, I know things can go wrong, Oh was telling me that today, but I somehow block that one off my mind because I can get paranoid and this well be my last pregnancy, we only want two children so I really want to enjoy it.
. Big hugs to you and i so hope this is another forever baby for you xx

I am sorry about your losses kitten_pie, you ladies all deserve these babies so much, I so wish you start enjoying the pregnancy and have a happy ending.

I am guessing I am buying things because my DD is 5 and I havent kept anything and all my friends have either a small baby or under one so really not expecting to get hand me downs from them.
Also with DD we were really skint, leaving with my inlaws, had almost all hand me down stuff apart for the mattress and car seat. We are a bit better financially now.

Morocha - my oh keeps reminding me things can go wrong too. I find it quite hard to imagine - well, I can't begin to imagine how some of you ladies must be feeling.

I hadn't bought anything yet but I did just discuss with oh stopping my mortgage overpayments on the house I own from before we married so that I've got a slush fund for baby stuff. My oh is tight as a gnats a**e and I know will whine if I spend money! It's probably the last money I'll have of my own for a while too so need to make the most of it.

Hope the mw today is much friendlier skint and have fun at the doctors morocha!!

I've had my first midwife appointment and she's lovely! Although my arm is still aching from the blood test. I am worried though as in the past, I was diagnosed with a slightly hyperactive thyroid gland and I know that can cause complications. Also my BMI is classed as underweight so this means I'm under the consultant rather than midwife. Has anyone else been in this position as I'm worrying about everything under the sun?
Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug). ;)

morning ladies. how are you all?

sadly i was prepared for the 'dull' weather and am wearing all black and have my jacket, and its bloody warm outside. typical. hehe. suffered on the trains and tubes though as it gets way too hot and squashy. sigh.

anyway morocha, i am the same. i wont buy anything for a while yet as we lost our baby in January so my DH also keeps me thinking realistic as i got so excited that time. I am also thinking without him telling me, that once i see all is well, i can start slowly. i only put aside a little amount of money each month towards a 'baby fund/stuff to buy in the future', but that is an ongoing thing. i am also trying not to buy some maternity clothes just in case. even though i have gone a size bigger, i might just go and get some cheapy big size clothes. its sad to live in that fear, but i dont want to jinx it you know? :( glad your appointment went well though. :)

misskeith, glad your mw was lovely. sorry about your arm though. ouch. i am such a wimp when it comes to needles. i had to look the other way and with another student talking to me i thought i could be distracted but i wasnt when i felt the !!!!!.yuck. well they calculated my bmi and i am high but she said its fine. i never have paid much attention to the bmi's before as its not a proper proper guide is it? i guess in your case they thought they prob should refer you to the consultant to be on the safe side too. dont worry too much sweety xx

morocha hope your bums ok. :) i slid and fell on my bum on the stairs a few weeks ago. i am sure these things are ok at times. hehe.. i just laughed and wanted some attention from DH. :rotfl:

Im under consultant led care for a number of reasons, all this has meant so far is I have to wait around an extra 2 hours after the scans to see someone who spends 5 minutes in the room with me and doesnt seem to do much ;)

Did you tell the MW about your previous thyroid problems ? Its important in the first 12 weeks to make sure you are producing enough as the baby relies on you for that up to then (until they start producing their own). My MW added it as part of the many tests they do at booking in, from that they could see I needed to take thyroxine to lower it a little and keep it within the guidelines (made me feel a shed load better too :T)

If you arent sure I would give her a quick call and request it, wont do any harm to check.

I'm pretty lightweight but apparently didn't come out as underweight BMI wise this time as no-one mentioned it - what was your BMI number?

How far along are you? When they did my first weigh-in it was colder so I was in boots and more clothes and I was already at 10 weeks so a bit heavier than normal.

I wouldn't be too worried about your BMI, I'm usually underweight by that measure but it's so dependant on your body size. So long as you're eating OK (and if your morning sickness is bad and you're not keeping much down your BMI might initially get worse!) I can't see much problem. Perhaps they're just playing safe and making sure that there's nothing else keeping you from putting on weight (I'm not sure but could a hyperactive thyroid make you underweight?).

(PS - my first set of bloods took 2 weeks for the brusing to go away! It was only sore for about 4 days or so though, then the bruises arrived :) second set much improved, only very slight bruising and not much pain. Although I got faint after (and it was only one tube!!))

eww i gave three little tubes. got to wait for those results though. I did ask as i never know where to get results from (GP or hosp) so MW said she would send them to me. in the last preg (MC one) the only thing i got to find out from all my blood tests was my blood group and i already knew that anyway!

Ladies, what are all these blood tests for? Is it something everyone has?

yeah zcrat. i cant even remember now how many times i have given wee samples too. hehe i know they take blood tests when you see the midwfie and maybe some more along the way when you see her again, or at scans? i think its to just make sure all iron etc is fine and the mum is not suferring from something so they can advise accordingly.
