The early scans are strange because you can see the baby moving but you can't feel it
Exactly! Mine was hopping about all over the place (kind of a whole body jerk, like if you're half asleep and dream that you've tripped) and I was sitting there thinking 'how can I not feel that???'

I have a lot to learn!

Never even had a blood test before - or been to a hospital after the age of 3.

Think that will be about to change!

sickle cell anemia and something else also genetic (this they may or may not offer, not sure why I got offered as it's rare unless you are certain ethnic origin)

I had to have this tested too - apparently they can test my blood to see if baby has it because although im White British & OH classes himself as White British too, Baby Bee's Paternal Grandfather (OH's Dad) was Sicilian and came from a long line of Sicilians!

Forgive my ignorance but when I was taught about Sickle Cell in science at school they led me to believe only those with a black origin could get it, however midwife said it is very high risk in the med...hence Sicilains have a higher risk than some African countries.

    Learn something new everyday!

I think it's fairly standard, I certainly got tested for both Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia despite the fact that DH and I are both from generations of white British families. We live in an area which has a large African population though and I think that it's a greater risk there (certainly with Sickle Cell), so maybe it's just my hospital? I don't know.

We had the Downs testing, because we probably would have had an Amnio/CVS if it had come back high risk. We were seen for that in a teaching hospital though, and they did it with four markers - the blood test, the back of the head fluid measurement, the nose bone and something to do with the heart - it was watching the vessels from the liver to the heart and measuring the flow through them or something. That was the measurement they had so much trouble with which was why it took so long!

I've been enjoying jacket potatoes with prawn mayo. I'm in a pasta mood today, I think.

I felt better for a whole week and I've been feeling rough again for the last couple of days :(

We had it too. Both myself and OH are also from generations of White British families.

I think it is one of those things that is now best to check everyone for because you never know.

Rups as long as you are going outside in the sun of a day I think you should be fine with the vitamin D. I haven't been told about it in either of my pregnancies.

The vitamin D thing is a new recommendation, and not all areas seem to be implementing it. I heard a bit about it on Woman's hour a few weeks ago, but my midwife didn't mention it, although she and GP both asked about folic acid. I think the recommended dosage is the same as what's in most pregnancy multivitamins though, so I didn't worry about it.
