First day back at work since finding out and I can't concentrate on a thing!! How on earth am I going to make it to 12 weeks without exploding with excitement and telling people?!

Has anyone told their close family?

I don't really want to but I think I'm going to have to tell my Mum and Dad asap. I work for them on a farm and if all goes well, will be in 2nd trimester over harvest. I normally do an average of 14 hour very physical days - bumping around on tractors and running up and down ladders.

I've never been pg before - does anyone have any experience of doing a really physical job? OH is saying we need to employ someone else ( in which case Mum and Dad need to know asap - it's harvest hiring season now) but I'm a bit more of the opinion that as long as I'm careful then I'd be ok.

What do I need to know?!

Walby - I noticed to from the ttc thread that we started trying in the same month and got married within a month of each other last year! Spooky.

    Hello Morocha.

zcrat, the thing to think about re. telling people is 'would you tell them if you miscarried?' If you would, because you'd want their support or whatever reason, then there's no reason not to tell them you're pg even right from the off. Bear in mind that the more people you tell generally the more it just gets out and about anyway, but don't think you *have* to wait until *this* point.

We told a lot of people (well, the OH did!). Luckily everything's worked out fine, but even so, I'm still pleased we did. It's nice to talk about it :)

Re. your job, hmm, it's up to you and how well you feel of course, but when you're pregnant the extra progesterone causes your ligaments to lengthen and soften. It's really not a good idea to be doing lifting, stretching, or putting yourself under too much strain. It's not so much the risk of miscarrying (although I think that can be increased if you fall), it's rather than you can easily injure yourself. Plus you don't know how 'careful' you have to be, because you'll naturally just do whatever you've normally done only to discover that it's actually pushed your body too far. Take some advice. Google or talk to your GP. (I'm guessing you won't have a midwife yet).

Thanks fluffnutter. That's what I was thinking - if I did mc then I'd want the parents to know and as I work with them it'd be pretty tough not too.

Thanks for the advice re work - I think I might try and take some doctors advice. I know my Dad will want to wrap me in cotton wool as does OH whereas I know my Mum will be of the opinion "well, I was picking brussels in Feb in -10 when I was 8 months with you so you'll have it easy sitting on an air conditioned tractor". My mother is not known for her sympathy!

morning ladies and congrats on the BFP morocha and zcrat. :) The excitement is great isnt it? :rotfl:Last tme i had told my mum and my inlaws and when i had my MC i had a lot of support, so its really up to you who you want to tell. Even friends were lovely when they found out after.

Thanks for your kind words Aida. we def will do this this time, and really after reading your words, i feel more positive (still feel nauseous and eeky). am suffering from headaches big time as well and the hot weather makes it worse.

On the positive, i went and saw the midwife, and we were running late so DH was getting irritated. oops. we finally made it and she was nice. We filled out the HUGE form, and i have my bloods (yuck), got my BP taken and was given that Bounty pack thingy, which i still have to go and pick up from somewhere. like those freebies. :) Then i asked about travelling on a plane and if i can dye my hair? All fine, so am happy. Touchwood. Oh and i got weighed and it has been amazing how QUICKLY i have put on weight. I have gained 6 kilos just like that (ok since the miscarriage) but i feel like a fatty now. even my mum in law said i was looking bigger. hehe. well i have a baby thats why thankfully and not just fat. phew!!!:rotfl:

I am glad that I have put on weight, so its a good sign that the baby is growing no? :)

ohh zcrat be careful with heavy lifting and stuff. the GP said to def steer away from very physical stuff and stick to walking, and swimming esp in the 1st trimester, so be careful. xx

Hi I'm pg with number 2. When I was pg with DD, I thought I would be able to do everything I normally would (I have a desk job) and I felt great the whole time, but... I had bleeding between 20 & 25 weeks on 4/5 occasions and everytime is was immediately after physically overdoing it. Not farm work, but the first time I did a big spring clean in the house, I woke up at 5am the next morning bleeding, called the hospital and was told to go to hospital immediately with a bag packed. The next time we had a stock take in work and I was on my feet walking around for about 6 hours, the next time was my friend's wedding and an early start, late night and carrying flowers from the church to the reception.

Luckily my DD was fine and they never found an explanation for it.

I would just prepare yourself to not be doing a lot of physical work. You may feel up to it, but it might not be a good idea. You could be the designated tractor driver.

Are there any sheep on the farm? There is something you can catch from sheep which is not good for pregnant ladies (I can't remember if it was only at lambing time or not).

Hi all, can I come and join you? Got my BFP last week and have been lurking for a while. It's good to see so many name I recognise. Am a little anxious as have had 2 mcs in the past however, what will be will be and many other women have beenthrough worse that I have. i'm just grateful to be given the chance of another child!

CL - fab to see your name pop up here - I had been wondering how you'd been getting on!

Re the sheep on the farm - I think it's the sheep dip that's a danger but wouldn't swear to it!

I don't post an awful lot as I can never think of anything interesting to say but I do lurk every day! Speak to you all soon!

Hi Nephthys! I saw you on the list on the TTC forum. Even when I wasn't TTC I still stalked it a bit, so glad you are here with me! What is your due date?

With sheep, I've been told it is lambing that is the dangerous time.
