Moneypenny, you can buy separate folic acid tablets really cheaply at the supermarket if you want to supplement. It's a water soluble vitamin, so no harm in taking both sets of tablets, as far as I know.

LadyM - sorry I didn't reply last night, was knackered after pilates and went to bed at 830! I've re-read the chapter on diet in my book (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Conception-Pregnancy-Birth-Childbirth-Parents/dp/1405329726/ref=dp_ob_title_bk) and it states that there shouldn't be any need for you to eat meat. It's important to eat a mixture of protein sources to make sure you're getting all the essential amino acids (the ones your body can't make), so pulses/beans and eggs/dairy. There are also a couple of vitamins that are mainly found in animal products - Vitamin D and Vitamin B12. It may also be difficult to get enough iron from vegetable sources.

If you don't eat a lot of eggs/dairy, they suggest taking a supplement for the vitamin B12. I believe that most prenatal vitamins contain the RDA for vitamin D anyway, and some iron as well - are you taking one already? Iron levels will be checked by midwife at various points, so you'll know if you're low on that.

I wouldn't worry too much about it; a balanced diet should provide you with some folic acid as well. You're aware of it now, so maybe get hold of some other tablets (Sainsburys and Tesco do pregnancy supplements too), and hang on to the ones you've got for the second and third trimesters.

I'm not taking any at the moment, my tablets are like horse pills and I can't swallow them :(

My folic acid tabs are tiny, they're from sainsbury's - maybe worth getting some and not worrying about the other vitamins for now?

    Hello!

I hope everyone is well? I have been very sick over the last few days which means a big headache has been in store :(

Forgot to take my Folic Acid yesterday, can I double dose today to make up for it? 1 this morning and 1 tonight??

Funnily wasn't sick this morning so can't help thinking the Folic Acid is causing the sickness? Ever still will continue to take it :)

Talking about vitamins, if you check your boots card at the self-service machine, it gives you a £3 off £10 spending. Pregnacare is at the moment on offer for 3 for 2 (£4.52 each) so you can get 3 of those plus one of the cheapest multivitamin (£1.05) and pay £7.09. Just make sure that the cashier scans the 3 pregnacare first.

It's not a 'dose' as such because it's a supplement not a medicine. You will be taking in some folic acid from your diet, so missing one tablet won't hurt. Alternatively, nor will taking an extra one because folic acid's pretty non-toxic and you'll just excrete what you don't need.

Up to you but I wouldn't worry either way :)

Be careful if taking a multivitamin that's not formulated specifically for pregnancy. You shouldn't be taking anything with Vitamin A in it.

Hi Ikkle :) No, it's ok - I just don't want to 'officially' get onto this thread, as it never goes well when I do (but it doesn't stop me lurking and posting with my knowledge of the first trimester!)

I am getting a lot more extra monitoring this time. I've managed to get myself placed under the care of two specialist teams - one for recurrent miscarriage at one hospital, and one for high risk pregnancy at another! The recurrent miscarriage clinic have been really good - although all our tests came back normal, we're being scanned every two weeks and getting some hand holding with it. Had a scan on Tuesday and measured 7+1 which is pretty much on where I thought I was.

We were referred for an early scan as well because they were unconvinced by my dates as we conceived straight after the ERPC with no period in between, and had that yesterday, and that measured 7+2 so at the moment everything is progressing normally. We have a kidney bean shaped blob with a little flickering heartbeat :) We got this far last time though so we're still keeping our fingers crossed. Next scan will be at 9+1 and it tends to go wrong at 8wks for us, so this will be the biggy.

Still feeling sick, headachy, exhausted but not sleeping well... and this time round I have some really lovely stomach pains to go with it. I think it's a combination of trapped wind, constipation (lovely!) and stretching ligaments but it's not nice.

How's things with you? How are you feeling now?

I have some in my house somewhere, so I don't want to buy any more. But I'm too tired to look for them! I really need to sort myself out...
